Bits, Part II
Oct. 24th, 2005 12:41 pmLast night's world series game was a really good one. But I kept feeling like I needed a towel to dry off. It seemed to pour down rain the whole game. However, it was TV rain which I had just learned about an hour before.
See, the World Series game was on Fox and just before it was the Seahawks game. I am not a football fan, but even I can get into the last 5 minutes of yesterday's Seahawks game. However, the key issue was that on TV, it looked like it was pouring down rain. Seriously. It did. However, on my terrace - aka REALITY - it was only a minor drizzle. Sure it was wet and if you were sitting in it, it was probably really wet but if you were walking a block in it, you probably barely got damp.
So watching the game in Chicago, it looked like the monsoons.... but I'm thinking it was really only a drizzle.
But, it was still a good game. Mom said she fell asleep in the 7th inning and when she woke up this morning and got the paper she had to read the story 3 times before she could believe all the action she missed in the rest of the game.
And speaking of Mom, she's all hooked up again. Tracy was good at his word. The account came back and I got her to reboot the modem and bam! she's back in the saddle again. Whew.
And the teddy bear stuffing has been reordered. According to the stuffing guy, the manufacturer said that FedEx said that they would not be able to complete a trace on the package until next Friday. Crazy talk if you ask me.
lilactime was talking in an entry today about not having a car and then about not having anyone to help out at home and delivery services. It reminded me once again that I have no contingency for needing help. I've got no qualms about dying like John did. It bothers me not one whit to die and not be found for days. I'll be dead, I won't care. Give flies a chance. But, what I do care about is not being able to fend for myself. What if I broke something. What if I needed help/care/assistance? I'd be totally dead in the water. And I have no clue what to do about it - how to create a contingency.
But, she was also talking about delivery of pet stuff. I used to use a delivery service to get cat food and litter and stopped but I can't remember why. I did, today, find the old service but then gave myself a virtual dope slap when I realized that I have two different (actually 3 but I refuse to use one) grocery delivery services happy as heck to bring me cat food and litter whenever I want. Whew.

Date: 2005-10-24 08:18 pm (UTC)I spent most of the game right on the border between asleep and awake. I don't think I actually missed any plays. I was certainly wide awake for that 9th!
I think you're right about the rain -- I've noticed this effect before, in games where all I could think was "Are they really playing in that?" I keep telling myself that at least one advantage of the Red Sox getting knocked out early is that I didn't have to sit through any games in those conditions.
(I note that, if the Red Sox had survived past three games, they would have had the potential of playing at home on all three of the most recent Saturdays, all of which have been distinguished by particularly dreadful weather. They might have been able to play this past Saturday; the other two, definitely not.)
