In general, I totally disapprove of any World Series that does not go 7 games. (This rule does not apply when the Yankees are involved since mostly I just blow off those World Seres.) But, I was ok with Chicago winning last night. Frankly I got enough of it all on Tuesday so I was ready to be done. February. Spring training will start and the slate will be clean again. I can wait. And my TiVos need some attention anyway.

Two more days. Today and tomorrow. The last few days of any job are always strange and usually not so comfortable. This is no different. When you first tell them you are leaving they are all desperate to keep you. How long can you possibly stay???? Towards then end it's way more 'Are you still here? Oh well.

I've been trying to find a toothpaste that I can stand the taste of. (Don't try and parse that sentence.) I like the Superman gel. I don't like the Colgate with Listerine bits. The Colgate sensitivity stuff has a strange aftertaste and I hate the gigundo tube. Yesterday, I picked up Crest Sensitive - Original Formula. It totally passes the taste test and it's in a nice, smallish tube that is both silver and stands on its end which means it will flow better and it doesn't have to look like it was abused as it gets used up. I got it at Walgreens and this afternoon, on the way home, I'm going to stop and get more. Since I have now found it and love it, I'm fairly sure they will stop production tomorrow.

His brother and sister are going to go to John's condo today - if they can convince the coroner to let them in. How creepy must that be? At least they have both been there before. John was not one to invite people into his living space. And he only moved there last year. But they were both there to visit in May so at least there will be some familiarity. I do hope they can find all they need and get everything wrapped up with a minimum of hassle. John was pretty meticulous so, hopefully, at least there will be order and not chaos.

The stock market is killing me these days. My brilliant investments are looking a little What-Were-You-Thinking. Thankgod I bought those shares in Google or my stock world would be in worst shape that it already is.

Even though it's totally ghetto and I can only find it at Wal-Mart, I love Close-Up because it's cinnamon flavoured. I much prefer this to mint, which encourages me to brush more often, which can't be a bad thing. While I've seen other cinnamon-flavoured toothpastes around, they're usually the enamel-bleaching/whitening kind. I quickly discovered that these really irritate the corners of my mouth, no matter how thoroughly I rinse. Ouch.

Chiming in from left-field (ooh, baseball term tie-in, how clever):

We recently bought a tube of Tom's of Maine Apricot "flouride for a dry mouth" toothpaste. It's actually not bad, especially if you already appreciate the more subtle Tom's line of toothpastes. You won't find the sweeteners and intense flavors here. The apricot flavor tends to "overflow" my mouth before my Sonicare says I'm done, though. I think it's triggering my saliva glands more than regular ol' mint paste does.

But I think my favorite remains Arm & Hammer mint. Just tastes best to me.

(Ooh, I see over at the Tom's site they actually sell a fennel flavor too. Might have to try that one sometime.)

Try Tom's Cinnamint - we like it and it avoids the Crest/Colgate conflict which were the defaults for each of us. (The last Crest small tube I got for travel is red, not green inside). I tried the fennel once when Cinnamint wasn't available and didn't like it.

Buying plain dental floss (tape style) is getting hard too.

We actually haven't finished that tube of Tom's fennel, you know.

Are you sure your use of sensitive toothpaste isn't why some foods taste wrong to you? It's a common side effect.

It's amazing how many toothpastes come with instructions that say not to swallow the stuff. Some even recommend a call to the poison control center if more that the amount used for brushing is swallowed.

And likewise! It took me a few weeks to figure out that the constant sores at the corners of my mouth were due to caustic toothpaste, and not just dry weather. If that's what it does to my skin, I shudder to think of what it does to my teeth. Sadly, as you say, it's become very popular. I wonder how many people live with what they think are cold sores because of it?

I spoke too soon. I just got back from Wal-Mart, and to my horror, the new packages of Close-Up boast tooth-whitening ability. The barcode is the same, so it's a replacement, not a different product. I scooped up all the old boxes that they had, and took one new one to test to see if I can use it. I don't have high hopes though.
