When I did my major house remodel in 2005, I replaced a lot of old stuff. I took every bit of flatware I owned to Goodwill and bought 2 20-piece sets of Ikea's FĂ–RNUFT.

I noticed a month or so ago that some of the fork tines were not lined up any more. And then, I read someone online asking for simple flatware with good balance and someone else recommended Ikea's SMAKGLAD. A significant upgrade from $8 (And I think, actually I paid $6 for each 20-piece set.) to $30 but, heck, I'm a big fucking spender. So I ordered a set.

OMG heaven! I love this set. The size, the lines, the heft, the balance. I've had them now for about a week and every time I use one, I'm delighted all over again. It's ridiculous but so fun. I'm going to buy a second set next weekend when I'm down that way - just in case.

Congratulations! We just replaced all our flatware for the first time ever (having always had a motley mix of goodwill + hand me downs) and it's surprisingly wonderful! I have enough silverware, of the right kind and it all looks lovely together. I'm thrilled!

Until two years ago, I always had cheap sets of flatware. When I received a coupon for a sale at Crate and Barrel and a gift card, I carefully selected a new set. I was surprised by how important heft and shape was in improving my dining experience. I am delighted with mine, though still expensive at half off. I'm glad you found flatware that suits you!

In I think 2009, I bought 2 packs of the IKEA POEM flatware as it was their higher end stuff then, sadly discontinued, but I have enough for 8 place settings and it's held up great as the forks are heavy enough that the tines don't get bent, unlike cheaper forks often get.

Sadly, it's discontinued but I'm not changing it out anytime soon. Now, I do have a motley assortment of forks, spoons, serving sized spoons and a couple of knives for tasting spoons, getting mayo out of the mayo jar (ice tea spoons are perfect for this and I have several of those) and most of them came from my late mother and she used them the same way as tasting spoons etc.
