Organizing Me - Can't we all get along?
Nov. 17th, 2005 11:09 amI love my technology. I really do. I do not want to go back to a world where a girl's best friend was the dime in her shoe (so she could always have money to call from a pay phone for help).
I'm not quite ready to declare victory yet, but I'm getting close. I've been looking for an online reminder service for a while. I've used http://www.memotome.com for a while but the interface is old and cluggy and it costs money to get all the features and even then it does not have all that I want. So I decided to get a divorce and find a new reminder lover. I looked at lots and tried a few and was not really happy with any.
Until I found http://www.airset.com. I think it might be the one. It has lots of stuff I don't care about but it has a good calendar that I do care about. And it sends me reminders when I ask it to. It can remind me via email and/or SMS.
It synchs with Outlook on the laptop. I have it set to synch every 4 hours - it requires nothing more from me. I can then synch it up with Treo. This morning I got a note from
treebreeze that he wants to get together on January 22. I was at my desktop so I added him to the airset calendar online. This was automagically added to my Outlook calendar on the laptop.
Oh and all my contacts are there, too. I am having lunch on the 30th with Susan and Kenny. So when I added that in, I set it up to send them each an email 24 hours in advance. Love that.
It needs to offer me the ability to select how I want to be reminded (phone or email) per event which it does not do now. And I can not seem to remember the name - I keep wanting it to be seanet or airnet or set something. I need a donkey's bridge - a memory clue - so that I don't have to look it up every time. But I think I can fix the latter and they are clearly adding new stuff all the time so I'm sure they will get to the former.
I do love technology. And I also kind of like that getting the bits and pieces connected and operating together isn't a snap quite yet. It's so satisfying when you can make it happen anyway.
Ok, back to work for me.
And just as I finished this entry, I get a cc of an email my brother sent to my Mom. No note just a zip file. Why doesn't he just drop everything and come over here and beat the crap out of me? Jesuschrist. She can barely handle a picture attachment and he expects her to understand a zip file? How can he - starting a new business - even afford crack??!!!

Thankgod for Flickr which my Mom really has taken to - she loves checking on my pictures. I was able to get his up there lickety split and send her a note explaining before she even got up from her nap to start creating zip file havoc. Whew.
