So far so good...
I got Mom enrolled for the medicare pharmacy insurance. Half of her drugs aren't covered by any of the available plans but the other half are covered nicely. It will work out fine. Anyway it's done.
We went to Target. Mom had only been there one time and that was with my brother who who thinks 5 minutes in a place like that is 4 minutes too long. This time she got into one of those carts that you can drive. We had a long list but I prioritized it so that we would be sure and find and decide on those things I needed her to. She really had fun, I think. I had to keep reminding her to focus but she did all right. We found a bedspread and pillows (decorative) and sheets that she liked (and later decided that she REALLY liked them). Then we found a table runner that was perfect for me to use to make a curtain for a long skinny window by her front door. And a wall clock.
We got an ironing board and iron and toaster oven and floor lamp and $350 dollars of other shit. We filled up her cart and another one. And I have to go back tomorrow. Turns out she loves the table runner curtain so much that now she wants three of them for the top of her tall windows. Very doable but I need two more table runners.
Then we stopped at her favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch (see pic below...). Then I took her home for a nap and I went to Wal-Mart to get more stuff on the list. Then back to her room where I made the first of the hide-the-wire boxes. This was for under the computer table and it was a huge success. I covered it in black fabric (the computer table is black) and mounted it under the table with velcro strips. Now, if someone has to get under there and unhook something, it's going to be a bitch but not fatal.
I got the perfect fabric for the other two boxes but the box place was not open today.
I unpackaged everything else and put it all away. I made the one curtain from the table runner and hung it up and within an hour she had had two people complement her on it. I declared success.
Oh and I ran Windows update on her machine.
She went to bed so I left. I stopped at the grocery store on the way back to the hotel and got most of the stuff that she had on her list.
I read through LJ and answered some emails and here I am. The WiFi network here blocks any SMTP apparently. I tried several different SMTP servers and kept getting the same error. And could not send any email (except from Gmail). Finally, I plugged in the Treo to act as a modem and bingo/bango off the mail went. Bloody hell. There are better ways to protect a network than blocking the ability to send email! But. Whatever. I've got alternatives.
Tomorrow, she wants to go to her favorite shoe store and buy herself some Crocs. Then she wants to get some cash at the ATM. Then I'll either take her home or we'll both make a quick Target run. I've got another long list but it's all doable.
I just did something that made the screen go to black on this laptop. Scared the shit out of me. Finally I got it turned off and then turned back on and all is fine. Semagic even saved this entry - no way could I do it again - in drafts. Whew. I'd better quit while I'm ahead. 'night

Juanita Rosenbergs! Gotta love the name.
Your Mom looks like she's having a good ole time. Yay!
Been waiting to see a nice picture and hear a good Mom story. Your week is zipping by and you'll be home in no time.
Are you going to the fancy place this year for Thanksgiving and having pork chops?
Oh, tell your Mom that the way I see her oxygen tubes entwined and sublty worn is the classiest way I have ever seen anyone utilize it.
Very tasteful and I barely noticed the tubing until I clicked onto the picture.
My best to your Mom. Happy Thanksgiving to her from her faithful fan club!
She looks exquisite.
