Another exhausting day at El Rancho Mui Senioro...

We started out with a trip to the shoe store.  Mom wanted Crocs.  I told her they were not easy to find but she said her shoe store had them.  I knew she was wrong but there's only so much worth battling over when your opponent is the size of a lawn jockey and is wielding an oxygen tank.  So, once she got organized - believe me, that ain't easy...  If you put a major rush on her - and this is a woman who is up at 6 - you might get her out of the house by 10.  If you are lucky and she's in a good mood...

And, of course, her stupid shoe store did have Crocs.  Only the most boring colors but still.  Boring colors is what she wanted.  So she got black ones and khaki ones.  Then on to the ATM.  She wanted cash.

Then way back across town to Target.  I got two more table runners and some tension rods.  Then, of course, it was lunch time.  She wanted McDonald's fries with Bojangles chicken (and you thought I developed my penchant for fried/junk/fast food on my own...) so we drove through McDonalds and then went down the road to Bojangles.  Then home to chow and it was good.

Then while she napped, I went to the liquor store, grocery store and box store to finish off her list of stuff she wanted and get what I need to hide more cords.

Back to her place where I put everything away, washed the dishes, cleaned the kitchen and made more curtains.  The picture on the right is the one I made yesterday.  'Made' is used loosely here as all I did was hem the top and the bottom and install a rod and cup hooks.  I am proud that I managed to get it hung so that you see no hardware at all.  'There's a long slender window there that is now covered.

Mom thought that the bottom needed some kind of weight so I bought a package of AAA batteries and slipped them in the hem.  I didn't even have to fasten them in.  I told Mom that when she needs spares, she can get them out of the hem of the curtain!

Then I made three panels you see there on the left.  The bottom of her big tall windows have nice blinds which are closed here in this picture.  But the top has nothing and the sun comes in and fries her skinny ass in the afternoon.  Plus the room needed a punch of color so...  More hemming and this time use of tension rods.  I got the middle one up by standing on the desk but I couldn't get to the other two.  A guy with a ladder will come tomorrow and do them.

They are a huge success.  They look very cool from the outside at night and way cool from the inside day or night.  I think Sheri would be very proud.

Tonight we had dinner with a friend of Mom's I had never met.  Mrs. Thornton and her husband used to drive Mom to church when she lived in her big apartment. Last year Mr. Thornton died and so now about twice a month or so Mom and Mrs. Thornton have dinner together.  Tonight was the night.  She was just a delight.  Really really nice and sharp and fun.  She told us about her granddaughter who is a design student and who is going to be on HGTV Designer Finals in December!  Mrs. Thornton was quite impressed that I knew all about the show.  I did a fast check of the website to see that granddaughter's episode isn't there yet. It's first airing is Dec. 23.

Now I am back in the hotel and beat.  I have three documents that need to be edited for work but I think they are not going to get edited tonight.  I'm just too whipped.  Maybe tomorrow.

Tomorrow we have to sort pictures to hang, get the curtains fixed up, organize the kitchen shelves so she can reach them.  She has a nail appointment at noon and then we are going to IHOP.

Today would have been my Mother's birthday. 102. She preferred it when I looked like this picture.

She was lot easier to deal with than your mother is and was in better health, too. But enjoy what you can while she is there.

John, you are much handsomer now. Re: Moms, mine is intent on being low-maintenance because hers were what she considered high maintenance (lower than yours, Susan) and she hated it, but that was because she didn't actually like her Mom or feel close.

Susan, I think you're actually offering a model of sorts to a lot of folks who don't know how they're supposed to act. A little hyper, but still...
I totally get it.

Fortunately for all parties concerned, I agree.

Your mom drinks booze? I thought she was a proper southern gentlewoman. *snicker*
You're going to be exhausted when you get home.

haha! I love the spare batteries in the curtain hems part.

I clicked on your photos and got this message instead this morning my time which is minus 9 hours your time:

"Flickr is having a massage. In the grand scheme of things, it's really no big deal. But boy is it embarassing."

Now you know what kind of kinky stuff they do while you sleep.

Good Lord!

Talk about a WORKING VACATION! I'm sure your mom appreciates it though. What a good daughter you are! The week will be up before you know it. At least you get good food and enjoyable dining company.
