But no, but yes, but no, but yes
Nov. 22nd, 2005 07:09 pmThis afternoon was a scene right out of Little Brittain. I was Lou and Mom was Andy. The project was hanging pictures. She's had them stacked in her bedroom for a month. She said she was waiting for me to help her decide where to hang them. I asked her a day or so ago why she didn't get Polly to get them all up and she said that she said she wanted me to do it. So this afternoon I pulled them every one out - there are about 30 ranging in size from about 5x7 inches to 4x5 feet. Most were matted and framed about 75 years ago but some longer. So the paper backing is torn and cracked. Several had the artwork separated from the matting. Most are ok - a couple are butt ugly.
I dragged them each and every one out and placed them around the living room. It had to be 85 degrees in that room. And I was already tired and I really didn't give a shit where the stupid stuff got hung. Once they were all out she said what she really wanted was to have Polly get them all hung next week sometime when she had time to think about it and was there some place I could put them until then. WTF??? What about where they were an hour ago, Andy??!!!! I was not happy. But I worked through the sweat and put the fuckers right back where they were. Gee it was fun.
Before that, we started out the day waiting for the guys from maintenance who finally came and put up the other two valances, fixed the broken electrical outlet, changed the bulbs in the living room ceiling fixture and fixed the window screens. Then it was time for her nail appointment. After nails, we went to IHOP for lunch which was really very excellent.
I took her home for a nap and I went to KMart and got the kind of plates she wanted and a throw for her chair that she wanted. Then we did the Lou and Andy routine. Oh and after that she wanted the furniture in her bedroom reversed. Bed, dresser, etc on the opposite wall. So I moved all that just waiting for her to change her mind and force me to move it all back. She didn't. Thankfully.
Then I headed out to Hickory Hawg to get barbecue for dinner. It was way out from Mom's and had it not been for my trusty GPS trick, I never would have found it and never would have gotten back. But the trip was worth it it was delicious - all of it - including the best hush puppies I've had in forever.
I am ready, however, to go home. I miss my bed. I miss my cats. I miss air that is not baked. And I miss quiet. Day after day after tomorrow.
