Now, that was a treat

I changed into non-schlub clothes and non-sandals and walked the block up to the place which is really a bar, not a restaurant. But it is a lovely, classy, upscale, luxury bar. It was busy but not too busy and I found a nice table where I could see everything. It was very comfortable.

I ordered a whiskey sour straight up. The cute but very formal waiter asked me if I wanted the 'traditional with egg whites' and I was delighted. YES! It was perfectly made and delicious. I sipped on it and perused the crowd and just wallowed in the loveliness of enjoying such a place.

My father taught me how to do that. Enjoy luxury when you find it. It's not something I want all the time. But once in a while, it's just lovely. It's also kind also kind of a special treat to enjoy it alone. Kudos, too, to the place and the staff for making my solo experience so nice. (I have dined alone in very nice places that clearly were dismayed at my solo-icity.)

I had steak tartare which was excellent.

And then I wandered home. I will do that again. And, delightfully, my gift card will pay for 2 more times!

There's something so grown-up about dining nicely, alone. It's one of the things that makes me feel the most sophisticated.
