Saturday morning
Sep. 10th, 2016 07:22 amThe pool does not open until 8. It's 7. It takes 25 minutes to get dressed, down to the car and to the pool. So I have some time...
It was quite the treat to get out and go to dinner with
ljtourist last night. It wasn't even night. He was nice enough to go early. The place we went sometimes runs out of food and it tiny. They had plenty when we got there and no waiting. I loved it. Frank, not so much, but it was fun just the same. It was fun to drive through downtown as people were getting off work for the weekend. There are still a fair number of tourists in town. The people watching was pretty spectacular.
There's an outdoor design/sculpture festival going on a couple of blocks from here this weekend. I need to wander over there and give it a look. And I need to do it today. Tomorrow it will be full of Seahawkians bitching about those people invading one of their many their pre-game gathering spots.
I may just pop over there as soon as I get home from the pool when it's still coolish. The baseball game is an away game that starts at 1.
My replacement Pebble arrived. So nice to have my wrist 'alive' again. Also I got the mini SD card. It's a 64 GB so I put all my music on it and loaded it into my new el cheapo Windows PC and told iTunes to build out from the little card. Amazingly iTunes said ok! Very cool. I keep picking up this little laptop?/tablet?/convertible? assuming it won't work this time or be laggy or, be dead and so far no problems at all. I leave it plugged in and if I leave it upside down, it gets really hot. But, otherwise, it's a delightful surprise.
Swim time.

Date: 2016-09-10 03:13 pm (UTC)Also, I gave my son my iPad mini since he's traveling, and plan to take over my husband's some-kind-of-Android tablet, since he never uses it and to me, it definitely works fine--just as well as the iPad for my purposes. The one reason I have an Apple laptop is that they do seem to hold up better in the later years.
I have a really nice collection of music in iTunes that I set up for my iPod (and who needs yet another gadget to lug around?) but now would like to move to my phone. Your story is inspiring. Maybe I can find a way to do that...

Date: 2016-09-10 04:51 pm (UTC)I'm sure there's a way - probably easy - to get iTunes to spit out your music so you can play it on anything you want. But, then, every time I think iTunes should do this or that, it turns out that it does not. But, good luck. I have several android tablets and love them all.

Date: 2016-09-11 12:46 am (UTC)Then there was the 'oh I need to get rid of duplicates - surely iTunes can do that!' Nope. Nada. I still have dupes.
Apple may be smart but iTunes is STUPID

Date: 2016-09-11 01:57 am (UTC)I doubt anyone wants that job.
I just googled and this seems to work on dupes:
Here are the steps to finding and removing duplicate files in iTunes 12:
Click on File > My Library > Show Duplicates.
Click on 'All' to view the duplicate track listing, click 'Same Album' to show duplicated songs from a specific album.

Date: 2016-09-11 08:30 am (UTC)What make is your little cheap pc? I'm looking for one at the moment, something tiny and light.
Many seem to have 32GB solid state drives, which alarms me as I reckon Windows 10 alone could chew through that quite quickly, never mind whati install on it.

Date: 2016-09-11 01:08 pm (UTC)RCA and yes the drive is 32GB tiny. BUT it takes a mini SD card up to 64GB so I got one of those and plan to just leave it in like it's a second drive.

Date: 2016-09-11 07:31 pm (UTC)Does your SD slot only work up to 64GB? I was planning to buy a bigger SD card for similar reasons, but am now worried mine might have a similar limitation. Apologies for expecting you to be my PC advice service... I've had a bit of a Google and people who sell SD cards that they claim are compatible only go to 64GB, but I can't see any concrete statement anywhere that you can't go bigger.
Getting things delivered is a pain (I work full time) so I'm hoping to pick my new toy up from the shop tomorrow, so I'll grill them for answers. Was planning to order the SD card from Amazon tonight, but guess I'll hold off!

Date: 2016-09-11 07:48 pm (UTC)I read in a review that the limit was 64GB on the micro (not mini like I said before) SD card. Amazon didn't even mention an sd card slot. Neither did any of the other places that sell it.
Do I got the 64GB card and it works great. All I really need it for is my music and I only have 27GB of music.
BUT because I didn't want to answer you out of my ass, I actually did go to the RCA site to see what they said. And... they say that it supports a micro SD card but the limit is 32GB!??!
NOT only that. I checked the properties of the sd card in my little machine and it says that my 27GB is taking up 50 GB of space.
So... Who The Fuck Knows.
How's that for some crack geek advice?!

Date: 2016-09-12 07:11 am (UTC)Ok, that's weird! I couldn't find any statement on my manufacturer's page, but hopefully there will be some form of instruction manual when the thing arrives.
Pretty strange behaviour from your 64GB card though! I kind of wonder what would happen if you put more than 32GB data on it, but in your situation I'd be reluctant to try it out till I had to... Just in case.
Thanks for the detailed answer!
