I am not only hooked on Black Mirror, I can't quit thinking about each episode. It really is like Twilight Zone was in the olden days. I watched the third episode of the first series last night and then, of course, dreamed about it in a way that made it way more real. I'm glad/worried that I have two more seasons to watch.

My swim this morning was a mashup of thinking about that episode and thinking about my finances and having to call the credit union today. I hate having to make these calls so much mainly because they turn me into the worst me possible. Mean and snippy and condescending and impatient. I'm all those things but mostly I can swallow it all until I get on the line with a customer service rep. I'm on hold now while their recordings tell me shit that I don't want/need to hear.

First hurdle cleared. I was lovely and pleasant to the CSR and we got the first issue fixed. She has to go to her tech department for the rest so I'm on hold again but now now nearly as full of anxiety and dread.

Once I get this squared away, I need to clean up the kitchen and do some tidying around here before I get to sew. No other plans or to do's. All is really kind of under control around here right now which is nice.

I used to watch Twilight Zone. I'd never heard of Black Mirror, as far as I recall.
(I used to watch the B&W version of Outer Limits, too.)

I like that. Thank you.

Part of the description reminded me slightly of a roleplaying game I used to have but never played, called "Paranoia" about a post-apocalyptic future in an underground city maintained by a well-meaning but insane computer.

One piece of art for the game had a sign reading HAPPINESS IS MANDATORY. ARE YOU HAPPY?

A citizen was grinning hugely but sweating nervously to a scowling guard who wore a visor over his upper face, while indistinct crowds grinned in the background.

I am not a good person on the phone, I can't relate well to people talking to me that I can't see and I react badly

I do my best to be polite to customer service folks, but the phone systems do their best to put me in a bad mood; it's not just the waiting, but the (usually dreadful, and awful sound quality besides) hold music, and the interruptions (which, every time, I expect to be the actual human answering) with either self-advertising or "thank you for continuing to hold" or both.

A company that wanted to really improve customer satisfaction in these interactions would preface their "hold" period with "If you want complete silence while you're on hold, press 7".

I watched the first couple of Black Mirror episodes of season one & didn't really get it. Everyone is raving about the new season so maybe I'll give those a try.

It's definitely the type of show I'm into, but the very first episode is kind of...gross.

I'm pretty much the same way on the phone, which is very hypocritical of me because I used to be a call center customer service rep. I know whatever my issue is isn't their fault, but I've encountered so many people who are just horrible at customer service that my default phone behavior is to be snippy with them.
