It's a shirt blanket!!
Oct. 24th, 2016 03:38 pmI discovered last week that Walmart sells very inexpensive fleece online. So I got some and, at the same time, I ordered another type of fabric in the same sort of genre. They both arrived today. The fleece is fabulous. Good quality. Nice to know!! The other fabric is a kind of minky.
"Minky is a special type of plush fabric that is often used to make baby blankets, baby clothing and baby accessories. Minky fabric is like fleece – but softer and thicker. The high quality of minky fabric prevents its colors from fading and its warmth from decreasing over time."
It's a bitch and a half to sew with because the edges shed. So, while you are cutting it out and sewing it up, you get snowed on by fabric bits. Which have the same kind of static electricity of styrofoam beads. And each seam has to be finished to stop the mess. It would be great if I had a serger... which I don't. It has no stretch which isn't fun but I love the colors and the soft and warm.
This is the coziest shirt in the universe! I am glad the cleaning lady is coming on Wednesday.

Before the fabric arrived, I did get a couple of dolls done. Good sewing day but WHEW what a mess!

Date: 2016-10-25 04:19 pm (UTC)On a totally unrelated note -- I used TaskRabbit yesterday, hiring someone to help replace the doors on some IKEA cabinets, after my husband and I couldn't begin to get the screws to budge. The entire encounter was wonderful, and I probably wouldn't have taken the leap, if not for reading about your successful TaskRabbit projects! Thank you!

Date: 2016-10-26 11:23 pm (UTC)I vaguely remember how my childhood friends' sister sewed herself a top out of an actual baby blanket. Those were all the rage at the time. lol
