My big toe has gout, again. I wish they had a better name for it. Gout, while the curse of royalty, is more closely identified as the curse of over indulgence. I kind of wish it had a name that invoked a little more sympathy. It's painful, it deserves more! I get hit once or twice a year. If I attack it early with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, I can usually send it packing. Here's hoping. At least I can still get shoes on and walk. Hopefully it will go away soon.

Last night's baseball game was really kind of amazing. The game itself was pretty cool. I was watching Twitter scroll by as I watched the TV. All of a sudden everyone in my Twitter feed was a baseball fan. It was amazing and fun. And the game was a lovely ending to a pretty spectacular season. The pitcher who got the 'save' - was on the mound for the Cubs when they won - was a guy who played for the Mariners until the middle of the Summer. The Mariners have never played in the World Series at all but at least we're now kind of one degree from it.

So now we wait until Spring training. 3 months. I'll be ready.

This bear got finished during the game:

Gout is such an ugly name! I never knew what it was until someone I knew had it a few years ago. Hope it's better soon!

I haven't done the research, but I seem to remember learning some time ago that the connection between gout and over-indulgence was a myth.

That was, indeed, quite a game. Some (notably Joe Buck, who might be said to have a vested interest) labelled it the best World Series Game 7 of all time, an honor for which 1991, at least, would beat it out in my opinion. This one was exciting and had a lot of interesting twists and turns, but it was also kind of sloppy (4 errors between the two teams, now I ask you), including some, shall we say, curious managerial decisions.

We didn't see all of it -- you'd have to ask [livejournal.com profile] jwg how we happened to have tickets to An American in Paris on the night of game 7 -- he was following it on his phone from the moment we left the theater (bottom of the 6th) until we got home (beginning of the 8th). We ended up with rather more baseball than we had expected.
