When Mom first got broadband access, it was on the @home thing.  That changed and then AT&T changed and with every change, her email address changed and she just couldn't handle it.  So I got her a domain name and had the register set up an email forward.  Over the years there have been a couple of problems but generally, it's worked great.  When she moved from Comcast to Bellsouth, her email address did not have to change - at least for her and her friends.  But now the forwarding seems to be broken again.  The register I use for this is DirectNic.  I hope their support staff isn't sleeping late this morning.  They are in New Orleans and we never lost any service (I have a couple of other domain names with them, too) during the storm days so, hopefully, they'll get this fixed, too.

My sister sent me an email that her mail to Mom bounced.  She attached the bounce notice so I do have evidence.

I explained to my sister that she could use Mom's Bellsouth address and would have no trouble.  But, when you are the center of the universe, it is difficult to focus on things you don't care about so this morning she sent me a note to send to Mom.  I forwarded the note to Mom and copied my sister.  Very efficient, I think.  Cripe.

Sister visited Mom in October and Mom showed her what kind of desk calendar she wanted for 2006.  For some reason that is lost on me, she decided to wait until she got home to get the calendar.  Then she waited until two weeks ago to mail it.  And she used an incorrect address.  And she is very very pissed that Mom didn't get it.  Her solution is to have me call the management there at Mom's and demand to know where the calendar is.  I declined.  I've offered now, 3 times, to order Mom a new calendar if she will only send me the details.  No details are forthcoming in any of the emails she's sending about how pissed she is.  What.ever.

Mom is still trying - without success to order clothes.  I'm pretty sure, now, that she just never hits the 'confirm order' button.  She says she can't order by phone because she does not have the catalogs.  (The move into her apartment triggered a USPC mail change/forward and did not include her third class mail.)  I keep telling her that she could find what she wanted on the website and just call them with her order but for some reason this isn't what she wants to do.  What.ever.

IDS, which is paying her mega bucks every day in long term care insurance policies, needs an annual review of her condition and needs.  Two policies so two forms for 'the home' and two forms for 'the doctor'.   Thankfully she did not toss these in the trash when she got them yesterday.  So I have Polly lined up to get them filled out and returned and Mom knows to turn them over to Polly.  Whew.  I need to call on Monday and get them to quit sending her stuff directly.  That's just asking for trouble.

One of my TiVos had a bit of a heart attack last night.  It was the newest one and CPR seems to have revived it and it feels better this morning.  Whew.

I have about 8 hours of work work that I can do this weekend.  And I need to pick up some of the shit that someone has just dropped around here.  Do some laundry.  Clean the kitchen.  Chores.

Monday morning at 8 a.m. I have a dentist appointment.  I am trying not to stress about it.  It's mainly for cleaning but cleaning to me is the worst.  Plus, my teeth are really getting worse and worse.  There is more and more that I cannot eat because they are too difficult to bite or chew without pain.  The options for fixing are too painful to think about, too involved to even consider and too expensive.  This is not good.  I am glad my appointment is first thing in the morning and first thing in the week.  That helps me focus on the after...

Tuesday, Kieran and Alan and I are going to the Bellevue Art Museum to see the exhibit.  And, [livejournal.com profile] art_thirst, I have not forgotten my promise.  I will provide a full report!

Ok, now I have procrastinated long enough.  Time to get up and get crackin'!

It's that coin-flipping that's making you cheerful, right?

I have a second TiVo with DVD burner on the way (sometime). I may want to tap you as a resource in getting it all working together. I doubt I'll keep both, but who knows.

Single tuner, and everything routes through the Comcast digital box (which is a pain, especially using the IR blasters to control it). I'm hoping to transfer the stuff on my current box over, but have no idea if that's even possible.

It's Series II on a wireless network, so I'm down to pain in the ass. Bonus.

My Comcast box doesn't have serial. Maybe I need to trade it in. Serial would be so much better.

Comcast central, of course, was clueless about the serial port. And, of course, you can't just call the local office and have them look. So I hoofed it over to 94th and Aurora with my old box in tow, and sure enough, the customer service agent (who had worked there 15 years and has seen cable companies come and go) immediately knew what I was talking about and hooked me up with a better box.

Wow, what a difference! I'm so glad you gave me the head's-up that these were available. It's like night and day.

Are your TiVos on different television sets?

They were a great source of no-BS news about Katrina and New Orleans during the hurricane and its aftermath. One of them blogged at http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/ (http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/) before he went to Florida. He seems to be back now doing flashbacks. It was fascinating reading how they kept the site running. [Rolling 55 gallon drums of diesel up ramps to the 9th floor!]

How strange. Is LJ mad at me? We'll see if this one makes it. ["Can you hear me now?"]
