Finally got through to the Seattle Police and talked to a really nice lady. She asked me some questions. And I learned that a locked locker in a members only gym is not burglary. It's the same as if I laid it on the sidewalk and someone took it. Simple theft. Interesting.

She asked if I wanted a phone call or a police officer visit. I wanted to ask if she had a really nice cute one she could send. But I didn't. I asked which was easiest on their end. She said phone call and I said great.

Someone will make 2 attempts to call me from a blocked number sometime before 10 pm tonight. If I don't pick up, I am to call back tomorrow after 7 am and start all over again. Sounds reaonable to me.

That's like when my uninsured and unlicensed neighbor slammed into my car in the driveway of my old house. The police told me that there was nothing they could do because it happened on private property.

Gotcha! Well that's good then. I think the gym should definitely be more accountable and not just brush it off. Sorry it happened though. Getting stuff stolen sucks and is a giant pain.

I went to an interesting Police department meeting in Boston yesterday with GLBT reps from the Cambridge, Boston, public transit, state, and somewhere else police departments, the FBI - and several of the LGBTQ support organizations (that's why I was there since I am the co-chair of the Cambridge GLBT Commission). People shared incidents that they were dealing with and several emphasized how important it is for people to report problems to them even if they don't want to press charges because that often helps them discover patterns and repeat offenders.

I completely understand this temptation.
