More nothings...

Jake has alternated between his new spot and the chaise all day.  He has not tried to get in front of the monitor or on my lap once. I am simply astounded at this success.  And sooooo grateful. 

I just got a notice from my credit union - I sent them two checks - one for $1,684.82 and one for $60.  I included a deposit slip where I entered them both and totaled them to $1,921.99.  They sent me copies of the backs and fronts of the checks and the printout from the machine and a note indicating the amount of the deposit.  Apparently, they aren't buying my bad math.  Darn.  That could have been a nice little profit center.

Ok, you technical people... I need help. 

I'm running 2 computers here and I like sound effects while I work.  I wanna hear the phst and the ffts and the bings and the bongs.  But, when I'm on the phone I don't want hear them.  The laptop control is easy to get to in a hurry but the desktop not so much. 

There is a mute button on my keyboard.  And there is a little speaker icon on my systray.  When I hit the mute button, the speaker icon gets a red circle through a slash through it.  I can also get that red circle by clicking on the speaker and checking the mute box.

BUT, neither of these operations appears to affect the sound the sound at all.  Nor does it mute the sound.    What's I'd really like is a big, fat, working MUTE button that I could leave on my desktop and whack in a hurry when I needed the sound turned off.  Anyone ever seen anything like that?

My New Years resolution MUST be to never ever ever go to eBags.com again.  I have enough bags.  Seriously.  I do.  I do not need more.  My last one arrived today and it is a beauty.  A nice, pretty, backpack.  My laptop fits into the padded pocket it perfectly.  There is room for anything else I need. It does not weigh a ton and it has wheels.  Not bad for $45.  I am done.  No more bags. I have enough.  Really. 

I think I need another utility to make getting to eBags.com impossible on any computer I touch.

Conf call at 4 and then I think I'm taking the rest of the day off.  I have a 2 hour meeting tomorrow at a coffee shop downtown.  I'm taking my new bag.

install it and your problems will be solved. you probably didn't reinstall it when you rebuilt your computer a few months ago (because you couldn't get the printer from hell to work).

Oh man, I seriously thought you had cracked the code... I did not reinstall it back then. So I downloaded the latest and installed it. I do have now a lot of kind of fun functions, the mute button does do squat. Nor does the one on the little speaker icon.

Oh well... I can swap speakers and get the one with the knob closer to me so I can grab it in a hurry. Thanks for the functions anyway!

Oh, I've been meaning to check out Konfabulator so what a great idea! Sadly none of the volume widgets had any affect on my actual volume but I had fun playing and I think I'll probably keep it for the other ufn stuff. So thanks!
