There was no one in the pool when I got there this morning. I was about 15 minutes into my swim when I noticed someone had started in the next lane. As I got closer I saw that it was one of the regulars from the West Seattle gym. He and I used to overlap at the pool nearly every day for a while but I hadn't seen him in months. We stopped and chatted for a bit. He said no one told him the heater was broken and he hopped in like normal and got quite the shock. He said he lasted one lap. He also reported that they said the pool would be fixed on Saturday ("They said a couple of days" - riiiiiight.) It was fun to see him. I actually have been surprised that I haven't seen more refugees from West Seattle. There is another LA Fitness south of West Seattle (I'm north) so maybe they all went there.

I have a blood bruise of unknown origin on my hand. I've been wearing my gloves to swim so probably it happened while I slept. It's not a bad one but it's been a long time since I've had any. A nice, long time. So many things about getting/being old are a shock. My hands - my wrinkly old lady hands - still shock me at least once a day. When they hell did they start looking like that????

My Kiwi friend, Scott, sends me a beautiful wall calendar every year from Central Ortego in New Zeland. It's such fun to see snow pictures in July. This year he marked on July 4, that my visitors will be arriving. Ha! He and his wife are coming this year. Fun to have my calendar pre-marked. Even after all these years (I think he's been sending me calendars now for at least 15-20 years, I still marvel at the number of holidays that make the calendar.

If you are in New Zealand, you get New Year's Day off. And the day after New Year's Day and the day after the day after New Year's Day. Way to start a nice year of holidays!

I may make a trip to Grocery Outlet today to check their avocado situation. They had tiny ones at QFC yesterday for $2 each. Er ah no thanks. I may to at lunch time and snag some lunch on the trip. Otherwise, it will be a sewing day. I'm inspired by the new fabrics.

As I have aged, one of the things that disturbs me more than most is the condition of my skin. It's droopy, stretched out in areas, wrinkled in other areas, and there are brown spots all over - - not the cancerous type of spots -- just "age spots", I guess they are called. My mom had them "all over" and I swore *I* would never get them as I looked at my youthful skin. Yeah. Right. I also have "hanging skin" where my defined chin used to be.... I have taken a photo of my hands to show off a ring, and am shocked at what my hands look like in that photo. I guess I don't see them for what they actually look like unless it's a photo? So -- I get your "shock" when looking at your hands.....

I still feel just as strongly that I will never get plastic surgery for this kind of vanity, but I now understand why people do it. But -- oddly I'm also proud of all this -- It shows evidence of a life lived fully.
