I am really over this cut out shoulder style of shirt/blouse/top/dress.

When I stop at my favorite tire place for them to check the air in my tires, they charge me nothing. I always give them $5. They always try not to take it and I tell them to use it for donuts in the coffee room. Yesterday, it occurred to me that if they charged me $5 for checking my air, I'd think that was an outrage and I'd likely never go there again and use the gas station air thing and get my hands all dirty and hurt my back.

Ditto with buying software/apps. If I find a very cool free piece of software, I'm very likely to 'donate' $5 or $10. I rarely even download an app that costs $4 or more because it costs too much.

I got no reason for any of that.

I am a non-driver and my wife has a favourite Tyre place.
They check her tyres free of charge and have never tried to tell her that her tyres need replaced. It means we trust them totally.

That's this place. They never ever pressure me into anything. They once suggested that if the tire light came on again in a day or two after they filled them, that I should come in and let them really examine the tires.

That's as close to high pressure as they get. I've never even bought anything from them. Outside of my little $5 'gift', I've never paid them a penny.

And yet every time I go in and tell them my tire light is on, they treat me like I am the best customer they've got. Even when, like yesterday, when they are slammed busy. I did give them a really nice review in two places.

I'm with you on the software thing. When I was a poor starving field tech I promised myself that when I got a real income I would buy the stuff I had pirated gotten as freeware or shareware. And I have done that for the past decade or so, especially for products I'm still using.

LoL, I wear that style shirts. 😆 I need to thin down my poor flabby arms, but til that happens I enjoy a sleeve that doesn't strangle my upper arm. I will be the first to admit that there are some styles that do look absolute crap with the cut out/slit shoulder look though.

Choosing to reward someone for giving you something you appreciate feels very different to me than having to pay to buy it. I suspect that plays into the way you feel about donating money for software or tipping the tire people.
