Several times recently I've been asked 'if money were no object, what would your heart desire to buy first' and I've kind of surprised myself by really not having anything on that list. I have so much. I have no desire to travel. I don't need a car or a house. I can't build a pool in the backyard because, well, there's an apartment building there and I don't want to move.

BUT, after Tuesday night, I realized that if money were no object, I'd own Diamond Club tickets.

I spent some time last night wandering around the ticket portion of the Mariner website studying the situation. There are several levels of premium tickets but none compare to the seats available in the Diamond section. But, there are a couple of problems. The big one is that all seats are in pairs. It does not appear as if they even sell the tickets one by one. Only in groups with 2 being the minimum. And the price is pretty pricey. And they are sold out.

So I figured I'd look into next year. They had a form to fill out for more info so I filled it out. And a woman just called.

Long story short - they have one single ticket available for 15 games this season. $3,805. Do I want it? I asked her if I could think about it. I have until Monday. She sent me the games, and the seat specifics. It's in the last row of the Diamond Club so 8 rows behind home plate. And, it's in the middle of the row. BUT it IS in the best of the 4 Diamond Club sections.

I'm so tempted. So tempted. When you add in tax that's a little north of $250 per game. It includes massive food but still. It also includes parking which, of course, I would not need/use and could maybe sell for $25 per game.

I just got my cash built up a little and I will be buying new counter tops for the kitchen and a new hot water heater... but still.

I'm so tempted.

For me....it would be a second home in USA. Texas possibly but somewhere like Virginia or Maryland is tempting.
I really must look up the rules of Baseball. It is probably the sport that I know least. I kinda like the early 20th century cuultural thing. That "Take Me Out To the Ball Game" interests me as a social thing. When cities got to play other cities, it was a major part in the development of USA.
Oddly I find the modern game too commercialised. But obviously getting rid of the old segregated sports system is a good think.
Actually I think all sports have a golden age and I have little interest in 2017 Football ie Soccer. I much prefer to read about the 1960s.
American Sport (and we find the whole College thing and High School thing to be very strange).
Is rooted in four major team sports, Baseball, American Football, Ice Hockey and Basketball and games like Football, Cricket, Rugby are the big ones in Britain and Ireland. We also have Gaelic Sports (Hurling, GAelic Football and Camogie) in Ireland.
So someday I will look up "Second Base"..

Get them. Especially if there's nothing else you want! That amount of money is not going to make you any richer, or poorer.

Like my dad says, "You're just going to die."

Go for it!

After reading so many of your entries on your life, I see a pattern of jumping at opportunities and taking that risk. More often than not, you scored and your risk paid off. Many of those choices have made your life as fulfilling as it has been, and even if it wasn't quite what you'd planned, the learning that came from the experience enhanced your life.

Yeah. Go For It! :)

We go for the opposite experience -- super-cheap seats up in the 400s of our stadium, right next to the press box. I've always dreamed of sitting in the club seats for even one game.

I'd go for it -- *if* the purchase doesn't affect your ability to pay your obligations. (I don't think it does, from what you've said.) Presumptuously, I base that on your comments about how much you enjoy baseball-type food, and how transformative your first experience in club seats was.

I think of club seats as a gamble -- you could have a great game, you could have a really crappy one. Do you have the money to gamble away? If you love the team enough that even crappy games are worthwhile, then bingo, you succeed. If you can enjoy the game, accepting that they'll lose 50% of the time, but you'll be entertained while they do it, then bingo, you succeed. If you need them to win 100% of the time, you're following the wrong sport :-)

Just keep in mind, you can't knit bears while watching from the club seats :-)

I've seen a bat get through the netting. Don't knit in the lower bowl. Please. For those of us who love your posts. :-)

I agree with people who think you should go for the opportunity. This is something you will remember forever. If the experience is worth the money, you can start saving spare change for next year's ticket(s).

I'm jumping on the bandwagon to say "dooooo iiiiit". If you can afford it and it gives you pleasure, why not?

I have a friend who is a figure skating groupie. I don't know where her interest comes from as I don't think anyone in her family skates. a few years ago, she came into some money when her brother died. She took care of all the important things and got her kids launched on the world, then started traveling to see major figure skating competitions. She meets up with other groupies she has gotten to know and they do a little sightseeing and see lots of skating. She's a nice person and generously shares lots of pictures, so it seems very right.

You are a nice person and generously share lots of pictures and stories. Be like my friend and enjoy!

A general rule of thumb is that spending money on experiences is always better than spending money on things. Of course, some things lead to experiences, e.g. interesting yarn. I'm glad to see you decided to go for it with the tickets.
