It's 11 am. I am home. Alone (well, me and the cat). With plans to pretty much do nothing for the rest of the day.

Yesterday was lots of fun. We went north of Seattle to Lynnwood to a gynormous mall and shopping area. Julie just shopped to hear hearts content. Even Scott bought some clothes and some shoes. They live in a tiny town in New Zealand but even when they travel to New Zealand's largest city, they don't find the range of selection or good prices they find here so they bring an extra suitcase and just 'have at it' as they often say.

We took the long way home (not the interstate) so they could see stuff and had a wonderful stop at Walgreens where the store manager pretty much adopted them and they, in turn, boosted his profits. A great time was had by all.

We snagged [livejournal.com profile] ljtourist to join us for dinner and ate a place that's been on my 'should try' list since it opened about a year and a half ago. It's a Vietnamese steak house and it was amazing. Maybe the best steak I've ever had and that was almost not the best thing I ate. I cannot wait to go back.

This morning I picked them up at 7 and whisked them to the airport and sent them off to check out Mormons. They have a little less than a week in Salt Lake City and then it's back home. I sure did enjoy their visit.

After I dropped them off, I went swimming and then got gas in the rented car and dropped it off (the owner wasn't there). I left him a note about the scrape. I was able to get it mostly all off but I can see a ghost of where it was and so I asked him to let me know how I can mitigate the damage. I'm hoping for the best but preparing for a big bill. I was soooooo glad to get rid of that car and get back into my wonderful small one. It may not have pep but it sure doesn't take up any more room than it absolutely needs.

As a reward for waiting patiently for my return, I filled it with gas and ran it through the car wash. Then I stopped at the library to pick up a boo on hold and at the grocery to pick up some bagels and bananas and then home. There's a soccer game going on across the street in 30 minutes but the traffic was being super well managed so I was able to whip right into my garage.

Now I'm in my cool house enjoying the calm.

Zoey just hopped up here and has fur matted on her back. What's that about?? She's a short haired cat who's never had mats. I found my cat mat comb (left over from Betty my very long haired cat) and gave her a nice comb and got them most all out and created a massive pile o' cat hair.

Next up, put away all the stuff on the kitchen counter. Make the bed. Start the laundry. And get reorganized. It was such fun to have a week of 'vacation with my friends' but now I'm ready to get back to my life. Or as Julie would say 'to just get on with it' in her funny Kiwi accent.

I have been reading your journal for some time now and enjoying it immensely. Been lurking for long enough and just wanted to say I loved hearing about your New Zealand Friends. If you are like me, it's going to take awhile getting used to the quiet again. I am sure you will miss their company!

I see they live in the part of New Zealand we didn't get to on our 2007 visit. (I may already have known that.) Need to go back (not overly likely at this point, but it could happen).

Cromwell? They grow some outstanding Pinot noir there, and excellent stonefruit too. It's a beautiful part of the country.
