Just as the Mariners snatched their victory last night, I came across the news that my car's time on this earth is limited - maybe to the end of this year but maybe a little longer - no more than 4 years. In the U.S. Smart Cars are sold and serviced by Mercedes. Smart Car has decided that only electric models will be sold in the U.S. after this year. So more than half of the Mercedes dealerships are just ending their Smart Car partnerships. Those that are not will be able to service the current gas models for only 4 more years.

Phuck. I love my car. My plan was to keep it forever.

I have an email into my service guy asking. And, there are a bscillion Smart Cars in Seattle now because Car2Go uses them (they use electric versions in some cities but gas here in Seattle) so they will keep the service end up for a while. I don't have a plan B. The closest is maybe a Fiat 500 but they are too low to the ground and I don't like them nearly as much as mine. I'm so bummed.

THEN

This morning, I get to the gym. Every morning except Sundays, when I get to the gym, Bridget who does the cleaning, is there, in the locker room and we exchange happy Good Mornings! And she keeps me posted on stuff and she explains stuff (like why the TV sound has to blare - because the millennials can't handle silence). From the years we've been seeing each other routinely, I've learned she has a 5 year old daughter and a 17 year old son. She drives a red hot Mustang convertible.

She was gone Monday and Tuesday and the state of the showers and locker room reflected her absence and not in a good way at all. So this morning when I saw here I was delighted and gave her an extra peppy Good Morning!! And then she told me that Friday will be her last day.

She got a job with the City of Seattle Department of Transportation. I don't know what she'll be doing but the way she talked about it, it is a dream job for her and I'm delighted and super bummed. My future holds no more Good Mornings (her replacement is 'some guy') and likely grody showers.

For years I kept a stash of pretty beaded lanyards to give as 'congrats on your promotion or new job' gifts. I have one left. I'm sure she'll be issued a security badge by the city and tomorrow she'll have a pretty lanyard to put it on.

While I swam, I conjured on what will be the third thing that will be a bummer.

And, when I got home, my Keurig - long out of warranty - spewed coffee all over the counter. I haven't cleaned it in years so that will be step one. But, if that doesn't work, then replacement and man, those things are pricey!

So now that I've had my three things, I'm expecting nothing but clear sailing from here on out. Maybe a Mariner playoff game?

Today is house cleaner day. When she gets here, I will head out for errands including flu shot and getting gas. I have my new jacket to finish off and some knitting to do plus the game at 5. Busy busy day - at least retirement busy.

I clean my Keurig out with rice. I nearly threw the thing away when it started spilling over but did some internet research and voila! Try that before you toss it.

Sorry about the smart car thing! What a drag.

I'm a dodo. I was remembering cleaning my coffee GRINDER with white rice, not the Keurig machine. I'm hoping that will suffice as my one screw-up for the day. Sorry 'bout that. But sounds like maybe you've got it fixed for now.

Re: the car, wouldn't an independent mechanic be able to service it? My car has been orphaned for a number of years (the demise of Saturn still makes me sad) but I have no problems getting it worked on at a local independent shop.

That's odd about the televisions in the gym. At the most popular gym on campus over here, all the TVs are set to silent and there is no music playing unless there's a fitness class going on and the trainer starts something on his portable music player.

I'd love this gym as well if it weren't so crowded. Sorry to hear about all the sounds from television and music. Sounds pretty distracting.

That's very sweet of you to give her a lanyard. I love lanyards. We clean the keurig with a bottle of cleaner we purchased somewhere specifically for it.

Maybe a Mariner playoff game?

I'm sorry, but... don't hold your breath.

ETA: Having taken another look at the standings, it's not as far-fetched as I thought.
