I am not a You Tube person. I just do not get it. Why oh why does one make a 20 minute recording to share 5 minutes of information? And if all you are going to do is talk, wouldn't it be better to have it written down for reading instead???

There must be a magic there that just whips right by me.

BUT I spent a good portion of this day watching You Tube videos and actually did manage to find a minute here or there that explained stuff fairly well but oh what a slog!

I am now ready for my serger. And I have lots of ideas. Remember those patchwork pants? The squares of knit fabric are already cut out but I hadn't figured out how I wanted to do them yet. Turns out I was waiting for the serger. Amazon says it will be here on Monday.

I did some other sewing today and finally got the damn sweater wrangled. I have only the sleeve cuffs and tying up the lose ends to go. Yeah! And, of course, now it is too warm for it. But, it's supposed to chill up towards the end of the week, I hope.

Tomorrow morning I have plans. Two Christmas bazaars and breakfast on my radar after my swim.

That's an interesting take on YouTube. Yeah, there are a lot of people out there who like the sound of their own voices, and don't have much to say, or know how to say it, but there is a ton more on YT than that kind of thing. At work I'm the YouTube tester for Android TV devices, and last week Boss gave me a spreadsheet with a full day's worth of YT items to test. Very eclectic. Lots of bleeding edge high resolution clips, music videos, videos of musicals, sports interviews, and so on. Boss is jazzed on an electronic music series https://www.youtube.com/user/musanim and I get a kick out of some Thai singing contests. And then there are things like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1QdEQ-ZA9o

But then again, there are probably a lot better ways to waste time. :-)

I don't recall ever watching an instructional video on YouTube. Just music videos and funny videos, especially funny cat videos. I'm pretty sure cats are the reason the Internet was invented. I'm positive they are the reason YouTube still exists.

I am neither a video nor an audio person -- they both take too much time, when I could easily read/skim what I need to know.

That said, I am consistently told that if I want to sell books to Today's Youth, I need to market both in audio and video. I'm working on accepting that advice. :-)

I sometimes listen to music on YouTube, but I hate watching instructional videos unless there is a transcript or closed captions. (Closed captions are often not very accurate, but mostly they're better than nothing.)

I don't get youtube either. I have friends that won't read anything anymore - all their information comes from youtube videos. But almost all youtube videos annoy me...

I watch an odd selection of things on you tube - Vet Ranch and other pet rescue videos, Buzzfeed Unsolved and Supernatural, dance videos, HiHo Kids (where they have kids try food from around the world) and Peaceful Cuisine and Jun's Kitchen where you can watch them prep foods and it's very soothing

That said, I don't know how people can follow people that do those 20-30 minute (OR MORE) "vlog" things. Who has that much time in the day to watch those?

I have watched the occasional instructional video if there's something complicated I need to figure out. But I see if it's a long video and they're babbling, I just skip forward to the relevant stuff.

I'm surprised you couldn't find good serger videos. I learned how to make paracord bracelets and key fobs on youtube; how to knit *again*; how to make an eye splice with marine rope; how to do CSS with Dreamweaver and a never ending stream of dog training & agility videos. I've lost count of how many computers I fixed or software issues I was able to solve using youtube.

While I was building my paddleboard and had *never* been on one, I learned how to use it.

They're not all wonderful, but for me the good ones rise to the top. :-)

I feel exactly the same way about YouTube. And "informative" television shows in general. Also podcasts. I don't understand why anyone would want to consume information a linear audio/video format when the internet has empowered us to rapidly search, scan resources then dig deep into exactly the information we care about. I understand if you are not a good/fast reader it might be nicer to hear the news, but surely the internet is the biggest literacy motivator humanity has ever had? I really think i must be missing something.

I find YouTube vaguely interesting, good for finding out how to do stuff I can't do and watching weird shit theories when there is nothing to watch on telly

I occasionally want to know something where it is useful to see it demonstrated, but mostly I want written instructions that I can quickly read, not lengthy videos full of someone talking that I have to sit through. I'm really not into Youtube as an entertainment source either, but I can see why others might like it for that purpose.
