I'm not entirely sure when the last day was that I did no swim at least a mile. I think it may have been last January. I already knew I wouldn't be swimming next Monday since the gym closes on Christmas. So my streak had an end in sight. But, this morning, I gave up after what turned out to be a slow 1,100 yards with many stops for catching my breath.

I came home and collapsed back into bed for an hour. I feel better now but I'm really not happy about having my swimming affected by this. That's not at all acceptable.

When I got up this morning, I was huffing and puffing and short of breath getting into my suit and into the car. I pushed through anyway when clearly I should have stopped and let my lungs catch up.

The plan for tomorrow is to wake up when I wake up and take my time and make sure I am breathing ok before I even head out. Normally I need to get there asap so I can be back on the road home before the work rush hour. But this week the roads won't be packed so timing won't matter at all.

This better be fucking temporary. Messing with my swimming is serious shit.

And speaking of serious shit, Amtrak opened up a new route this morning with a new station in Tacoma and expanded schedules. It was a huge freakin' deal with celebrations that started yesterday. The inaugural run was this morning and the train was packed with train buffs all hyped up for the first run. This guy's tweets is kind of chilling.

The train is dangling off the overpass onto the interstate highway on the new section of track. Yikes. Another reason to be grateful that there isn't the usual traffic this morning. I hate comparisons like this but even so, there are a whole lotta people having a way worse morning that I am.

I have nothing that I have to do today and that very well be exactly what I end up doing... nothing.

cough

Did you get any steroids when you went to the Dr.? They always help me. Of course everyone's body different.

I'm sorry you keep going through all this. It sucks. Do your doctors say anything about slowing down/rest? Well, at least there'll be today.

Geez, I've been watching King5 news live on the web and the derailment is horrific. The run had been tested a multitude of times too.

I know exactly where that overpass is located.
Scary.

Had it been UP, I would have blamed them, but because this is on BNSF trackage, I know their track maintenance schedule is constant. I believe this is an anomaly.

Poor commuters! I feel for them.

I have a friend who was / is on that train. He's super into buses and trains and excitedly posted an image of his ticket for this morning's trip, last night. We've all been waiting all day for any news, but it doesn't look good. His wife has gone to the area where the survivors and those not needing immediate medical attention are being held, but nobody has heard from her since she left. Whether he survived the crash or not, it is still horrific. :-/

Thanks, Susan. As things unfold right now, it's been over 9 hours and there is no sign of him. He is not in any of the surrounding hospitals (all patients have been identified) and the police are not issuing a statement yet. His wife has contacted Amtrak, the sheriff's office, hospitals, a public information officer at the freaking governor's office - nothing. Amtrak is setting up a family crisis center in Tacoma at the Marriott. It’ll have sheriffs and Amtrak officials there to help facilitate finding loved ones. Friends are now contacting (and receiving responses from) KIRO news because nobody will help, but man. They're still searching the derailed train cars and I think I know why he hasn't been found yet. :-/

Thanks, Susan. Unfortunately I just woke up to learn that he is one of the confirmed dead. I can not imagine what his family is going through. :(

They were even talking about this on the BBC today. It's really shocking.

Austin Jenkins definitely has his work cut out for him today. I think I heard him on all sorts of national and international news outlets... yes I was definitely taking note of what local radio reporters were getting on what radio shows. I always do when something local gets noticed nationally.

Yeah, when I first heard about it on my music station, I switched to KUOW. It was on national unrelated news, so i caved in and checked KIRO, and they were on it... only a bit too much. It only took five minutes for them to switch from relaying fact, to giving opinions. I'm pretty sure they blamed Obama. I switched back to KUOW and they finally started covering it in more detail.
