Well, so far this day has just disappeared. Work has sucked up most of it which is fine since it's billable work.

I did not hear from Polly/Mom this morning like I expected to so finally just before noon I called. Polly answered in Mom's room. It is shingles. She has shingle drugs. Her doctor sent her to her eye doctor to make sure that it hadn't crawled into her eye and it has not. But her blood clotting is out of whack again. And her eye is swollen and Polly says she looks a mess and is 50% annoyed and 50% pissed. And she's really really really tired of having to have sitters. Poor thing.

On Wednesday she goes back to the ortho guy to, hopefully, get the sling off. Then back to the regular doc to check blood clotting and face fungus.

But we do have some good news. On Saturday she called me to say that her college roommate had called her and in chatting she learned that her brother's widow wanted to know if Mom had a picture of her brother. (Ok I was amazed that all of these people are even alive...)

See, Mom had an older brother - Billy. Billy was killed in France during WWII. Before he went off to war he scored a chick. After he died said chick - Joan - went on to marry someone not so dead and proceeded to have a brood of children in Texas somewhere. I'm pretty sure I never met her.

But we had pictures of him. First at Grandma's and then at Mom's there was always an old portrait of him in uniform and cut into the matting was a piece of velvet with his purple heart.

Since Daddy died, at least three times I have helped Mom throw shit out. While still in her old apartment, we cleaned out her storage area once. Then when she moved into assisted living, we tossed out some more stuff while I was there once. This last time, she had a bunch of framed stuff to be hung but a lot of it was to be tossed. So we did (actually we donated the frames to the thrift shop). I was pretty sure that Uncle Billy had bitten the dust with one of these tossings. And Mom could have cared less. She didn't even want to hold on to a lot of the old pictures of Daddy.

But, for some reason she got all hot to find that picture again and send it off to Joan. What.Ever. I assured her that I did not have it and if my fingers touched it then there was no hope in hell of finding it again. My sister, who has saved every single thing she or anyone else ever had down to freakin' pocket lint, might have it. I told her to call Nancy.

I don't think she did but she did ask Polly who said that my sister-in-law had it??!!! Surely not. Why in the hell would she want that? Plus, they moved and even didn't have a place to live for a while. I was sure that was dead end city.

But, no... an email out and sure enough... she has it and she knows where it is and she's thrilled that someone wants it and there's a packit/shipit place next door to my brother's shop....

Amazing. Karmic - (is that a word?)...

I have a meeting in a coffee shop on the other side of downtown this afternoon at 4. There is generally a lot of traffic between here and there and zero parking places and a lot of one-way streets so I think I'm just going to take the bus. It will take longer but I will have to do a little bit of walking so I'll call it exercise.

Your poor mother. Shingles hurts. Alot.
In my family, you'd go to my sister lj user="cynnerth"> or my mother [livejournal.com profile] emschin for pictures. They've got pictures I've never seen before.

Your poor mom! Just one thing after the other recently. Shingles totally sound like no fun. I hope the drugs work well for her.
