Christmas

Quiet. Very quiet. My parents always had Christmas on Christmas Eve. Santa came after dinner while we were upstairs putting on our pajamas. So Christmas morning has always been a quiet affair for me and today is no different.

There's a flake or two of snow outside but not much. I'm in the bedroom and Zoey's snuggled in the middle of the mound of comforter.

For the first time in 17 days, I do not feel like a lung patient. I actually feel normal. I'm very grateful. I set up a calendar to track this past exacerbation and any future anything lung wise. I am not going through that again. 17 days is way too many days.

It's disconcerting to start a day without a swim. Happily, this could be the only day all year with no swim. I'm ok with that.

Wait, my neighbor down the hall just posted a picture of snow out her window... Just went to check and YES. Big, fat, beautiful flakes on Christmas. Wow.

My plan was to go to 13 Coins this morning for brunch. I think I'd better go now or not at all. This time next year, it will be a simple block and a half walk. But, not today... over the river - puddle - and through the woods - downtown - to eggs benedict, I go.

Happy Christmas, Susan!
I’m glad to think of you, living Christmas as you do every other day: on your own terms, unapologetically. You inspire me, and I’m so grateful you share your world with this audience. Have a very, very good day.

We had snow on and off all day yesterday. It's supposed to turn to rain today and melt away, but there's still a good deal on the ground. I might go take a walk in the slush.

I'm envious of your snow! No snow here in the UK, just endless dampness (not even rain).

I love eggs Benedict. No place in my rinky-dink town where i can get a good version of them. There's one place that serves them I think and I don't like that place. Were your parents German by any chance? (Christmas on Christmas Eve). I kind of like it better. We had a bit of snow too. I'm impressed with your commitment to the swimming. I'm extremely lazy. (About exercising). Take care.

So the secret is to find an activity that does involve SOME exercise and is fun for me. (Because right now "FUN" for me would be sitting in my chair with my heated throw reading a good book...)
Yep the Germans have a word for the "gift-giving" part of Christmas: "Die Bescherung" =lit the giving of gifts. Probably supposed to mirror/parallel the gifts given to Jesus? It puts that whole part of Christmas into its right place but doesn't let that part become the whole point of Christmas. Growing up in Australia we still did a bit of both, but after we moved to Germany and were older we did it the German way. Happy swimming! :-)
