Another busy day!
Feb. 1st, 2006 04:22 pmMan, where do these days go??!!
Today was full of work stuff - I had three different clients wantin' a piece o' me. I think they all think they got their piece and everyone is happy but I am turning into Julie the Juggler here!
Plus, I had one client just fixed and another getting ready to call when Polly called. And she was spitting bullets. And it's Mom's 83rd birthday and she spent it finding out that she has to wear the fucking sling for another four fucking weeks, plus her blood clotting level is still not right. Polly was spitting bullets because the staff at 'the home' is just losing it. Their boss was fired a couple of weeks ago because things were going bad and now they are going worse. So we hatched a plan.
I was to call the assistant director of the whole place (who, parenthetically, is the one who told me about Polly in the first place way way back when) and lodge a complaint and ask her to meet with Polly for the details. I called and left a voice mail and told her I would send email (she - assdirector - is good at email). I did send the email and told her that I wanted the ASSISTED put back into assisted living and I don't want to get any more calls from Mom in tears because they want to put her in an ambulance for a face rash.
Well, hell, here's my note and I copied Polly.
I got a reply that was excellent - she expressed appropriate dismay and did not over promise and pledged to get with Polly and find out details and she would call me tomorrow at 10:30. Then I got a note from Polly that she has a meeting with Sara at 9:15 tomorrow.
And Polly told me that the head of the whole joint (Sarah's boss) called Mom today to wish her a happy birthday. For the first time in the 7 birthday's that she's had there. So she said Mom was feeling a little less pissed about everything happening to her. I also asked Polly to get the sitter out of the room and make sure Mom knew that we were on the case and that we can fire any sitters she's not happy with and get new ones and do it without hurting anyone's feelings and all she has to do is give the thumbs up to Polly. She said she did that and that made her feel better, too.
And now my boss is on the phone to tell me not to worry so I'd better listen.
Whew. What a day.

Sarah,I do still hope to talk to you about this but really didn't want to delay expressing my concerns. Before the leadership change at Meyers Hall, things were not great and so I appreciate that issues were addressed but I am seriously concerned that while we wait for new leadership and for upgrades in staffing, the level of care has now plummeted to new lows. I am concerned about the emotional health of my Mom (it is hard when you are in assisted living and you can't trust or count on your assisted-ness!). But, I am now getting increasingly concerned about her physical health. She is now pretty dependent on people who while maybe well meaning just do not seem to be capable of providing her the care she needs. Mom is currently paying for necessary sitters while she recovers from her broken shoulder and even with these sitters with her 24/7, the Meyers Hall staffing problems are glaring. On weekends particularly, things get frightening. Last weekend she was nearly put into an ambulance and taken to the hospital for a skin rash! Fortunately, she was smart enough to call me but that should not have been necessary. As the Family Member In Charge (do you guys call us FMICs?), I'd like to request that you sit down with Polly Eells and hear the details of how the staffing issues in Meyers Hall have caused major issues - in areas ranging from critical medication to simply laundry problems - for Mom. I'd specifically request that you hear Polly as if she was me - the FMIC. Really, in Mom's care day to day, she is the FMIC.As I said in my voicemail message, I'll be available at 206 - 467 - 9912 after 5 p.m. today or tomorrow. Please do let me hear from you. Thanks, Susan

Date: 2006-03-09 02:04 pm (UTC)Apparently someone from the 10 or so duplexes behind my home (there's an alley where their parking is behind them because they're on a main road and the alley runs between my back yard/house and their duplexes) decided to take potshots with a gun at either someone who was between them and my yard/side of the house, or the privacy fence that runs along back of the yard or the house. Thankfully no one was hurt, the dogs who were outside in the yard didn't get hit and neither did Todd or his roommate who was hanging out at my place cause I have TV and cable and tivo and they don't. The only resulting damage seems to be my kitchen window and the loss of my peace, innocence and feeling of safety.
Since the kitchen opens essentially into the living room I'd say my living room had some not so wonderful mayhem that I hope never happens again.
p.s. Looks like LJ is being weird about comments again because I just realized I just received the email with your reply to me this morning but the entry you made was over a month ago! oy
