Fuck

The cough I had in December has returned and I cannot get from the living room to the toilet without having to stop and catch my breath.

It has to be the pool - the chemicals in the pool. I don't know if it's the chlorine or something else they use. I swam for years without issue in city pools that are all treated with chlorine so maybe the gym has some kind of magic ingredient. I don't know but I do know I cannot swim there any more.

I am very bummed about this. I love that pool so much. And now I can not even go back there. I'm not even sure I can get any of my $700 back. I sent a note to the guy I signed up with.

At least now I know what to do to fix this. Nothing. Again.

And then I'll either go back to LA Fitness (their pools are treated with bromine) or consider that gym down by Pike Place Market that has the short, salt water pool.

The dryer is finished the last load of clothes and I know getting up to go get them out will cause another round of coughing. Worth it? I don't know.

Fuck Fuck Fuck

I am sorry. Knowing how much you love swimming that's a hard one to swallow. I hope when you feel better you can find a pool that you like and which doesn't set off the coughing.

Oh crap. I admit ... I was silently worrying it was the pool, but hoping it would not be. I actually did a search on chlorine and copd, and -- yeah... Of course it might not be chlorine but "something else" they are using in the pool room. I hope you can find a suitable alternative.

I came across this article that indicates that it isn't the chlorine that stays in the pool that triggers this lung condition (granulomatous pneumonitis), but the chlorine and chlorine by-products that hang around in the air at indoor pools.

Maybe you can still swim in an outdoor chlorinated pool when the weather gets warmer.

Well, damn it all anyway. At least now you know and that's noteworthy. You absolutely should get your money back.

Well that sucks. I know how much you love swimming. Give yourself a chance to recover and try one of the other pools and see how you do.

Could it possibly be mold or mildew issues?

Well I suppose the good news (if you can call it that) is that you have a clear reason for the coughing etc, but I'm sorry it's because of the pool that seemed so perfect.

I'm sorry that your wonderful pool is trying to kill you. I was afraid the pool was going to turn out to blame. I've had issues with chlorine-treated pools all my life and thus avoid swimming pools for the most part. I really liked the salt-water pool at one of the places we stayed when we were in Australia. It didn't make me itch or feel like I was about to be unable to breathe.
