I'm all face and toe today. My face is chapped and my toe is in hurtsville. [livejournal.com profile] fionnabhar talked me into putting a thread of dental floss under the edge of my toenail to encourage it to grow out of my foot.

Great plan except guess who has no dental floss. I have 37 gazillion of those floss sticks with the pokey end. I mean really, I found a draw of them today and then a whole unopened package. And no dental floss. Finally I found a tiny package of it from the Holiday Inn. I have no clue how old it is, likely old enough to vote. And too fat to fit under my toenail. It's there but probably not for long.

So I got in the car and headed off to Walgeens. I got some dental floss and some ingrown toenail cream and bandages. And then I thought I'd get something for my chapped face. DIAPER CREAM!! Perfect. What a great idea. Gentle enough for a baby's butt but strong enough to heal chapped skin.

I forgot a key issue...

No need to blend diaper cream into the skin. In fact, since it is mostly zinc oxide, it will never blend in. Old white lady in the parking lot of a Walgreens in a mainly black neighborhood smearing solid white cream all over her face... who the fuck do we report that kind of mania to???

I crack myself up.

It is fucking freezing out today and still windy. But I doubled down on the epsom salts so we're good. The next soaking will be in about an hour/hour and a half. Not sure when I'll white face up again.

Hahaha, the visual had me cracking up!

What about Aquaphor instead? The nanny house has loads of it, and it seems to work miracles on both butts and their faces when they get those red, raw dry skin patches.

Aquaphor is clear (like vaseline) and is good for diaper rash. Might make your face shiny but at least not white.

Adding to the suggestions: Bag balm. It's used on cow udders and works a treat for stuff like this, too. It's sold in drug stores. Aquaphor is good as well and neither of these options leaves you looking waiting to take part in a Chinese drama.

Are you sure your skin issue isn't something like rosacea? That's how I got diagnosed with it -- my face looked red and chapped, almost sunburnt. People kept asking me if I'd been on vacation somewhere hot (this was in the middle of winter a couple of decades ago). Saw a dermatologist and turns out it was rosacea.

You crack ME up! What a mental image.

Chiming in that Aquaphor is a great product. I use it every time I get new tattoo work, and in the winter when my hands get really chapped and cracked. Works great.

My mom used to use Bag Balm on my grandmother whenever her skin would get super dry - she swore by it!

At my old barn, we would put diaper cream on the noses of the horses with white skin. Also on the naked skin under their butts. Those poor guys could get really sunburned otherwise.

The mental image of you at Walgreens is my giggle for the day.
