I took all my tax stuff over to the CPA today. I think I got all of it. There were two things he did last year that did not make me happy. I put a cover letter on my stuff today that covered those two things and asked that someone send me an email to acknowledge that neither will happen this year. We'll see. I'm using this year as a test year. I'm willing to find someone else next year if I need to.

I am on hold with Sprint. I want to find out what my options are for more minutes in my plan. I have had the same plan with Sprint for about 6 years. It has 300 minutes which has always been plenty but it is also my only way to call long distance and with Mom not able to use email and my needing to call Polly so much (and Polly needing to share every single detail at least twice), my 300 minutes aren't going as far as they used to.

Ok, I just found out that switching plans in the middle of a billing cycle is a fairly expensive proposition. So I have a couple of weeks to conjur on this.

One of the up sides of never seeking medical attention is that I never have to fuck with insurance. For the past couple of years I only had catastrophic insurance anyway so not much to fuck with even if I wanted to. But now I have adult insurance that really covers shit like contact lenses. The policy says $150 a year for vision hardware. No deductible. My contacts cost $90. After 6 weeks they finally processed my claim. The check was cut on Friday but their website shows what they paid. Depending on how you read it, they are paying either $60 or $145. I'm betting on the former. I am so grateful that I don't have to fuck with insurance companies much.

I actually did get an email from Mom today that she says she typed with two hands because her physical therapist told her she could. Poor thing. She's had such a hard time.

The parking lot in front of the stadium outside my terrace is a beehive of activity today. There are the normal monthly office worker parkers. Half the lot is taken up with motor homes - for the RV show that starts on Thursday at the exhibition center (which is behind the stadium) and they are trying to get a little Welcome Home Losers rally going in the plaza just in front of the stadium. The rally is supposed to start in 30 minutes. Right now there look to be about 75 Qwest field staff out there, a dozen fans, 2 with balloons. I'm thinking it might be more of a rally-ette. The TV trucks are circling. Oh and the mounted police are mounting.

Hey Susan, you may want to check out Vonage. I have it and have replaced my home phone with it. For $25/month I have unlimited phone calls to anywhere in the US, Canada and Mexico. I'm actually going to lower my phone minutes on my Sprint mobile because I'm not nearly using anywhere near my minutes on my plan. Plus turning of my home phone line saved me a bunch of money because even for just local service I was paying like $25 some odd dollars.

Living overseas... Vonage (and its competing VoIP services) are a great thing. Having one US-local phone number that any of my friends and family can call (domestic call rate for them) that will ring the phone plugged into my Vonage phone-modem thingy no matter where I am in the world has been a real asset.

But, I don't know that I would want to rely on exclusively Vonage for phone service. Maybe it is just that the bandwith I get from my connection here is highly variable, but I have had the Vonage line be very clicky and cut in and out during calls frequently?

I'd say maybe it's the connection there because I've had many people be surprised that I am talking on VOIP and not a normal phone line. Mind you nothing is perfect which is why I have my cell phone as well. But it certainly is a great asset to me and knowing I can bring the Vonage modem with me on a trip as long as I have highspeed internet access where I am so that I get my calls at my 512 # even if I'm in Basel Switzerland is definitely an upshot.
