I've been using Flickr to house photos in this journal. For years they even had an 'add to LJ' button. But, they changed their ways and then stop making any changes at all. For some reason that I cannot remember I never tried Smugmug. Now Smugmug has bought Flickr. I can only think this is going to make picture housing better. I hope so anyway.

Flickr will not let you auto upload to a public folder. So I use another app to auto upload to Flickr. This is a PIA because when a picture does not auto upload, I don't know where to point the blame finger.

My first choice would be to use Google photos but they make it nearly impossible to get a URL that links directly to a picture so not at all handy for using here which is pretty critical to me.

I just signed up for a trial Smugmug account but I can't get it to auto upload which is my main thing. Maybe it's slow. I think Smugmug's basic plan is reasonably priced but not if it doesn't do what I want.

I made 10 twice baked potatoes today. Yum. Dinner will be delicious. And the freezer will keep the rest. I got the new top cut out and ready to sew. I got another sewing project well along its way and I watched the Mariners lose :(

Nice day really. The kitchen and dishes are all cleaned and the sewing stuff is put away. Time for CBS Sunday Morning and a little mandala making.

I've used SmugMug for years. I upload using Lightroom, a storebought program.

You mean auto upload from your phone to SmugMug? I see an upload option on smugmug from Amazon drive, and Dropbox but not google drive. That's a pain.

Are Flickr accounts moving over automatically? And to a free SmugMug account?

The notice I got says that on May 25, 2018 all Flickr accounts and data will transfer to SmugMug, so I think that means that after May 25th Flickr will no longer exist? At least that was the gist I got out of the eMail about it all.
Just found more info.. and Flickr will still exist, it'll just be bound to SmugMugs TOS and PP is all. That's a relief.

It drives me a little bit batty that the eMail notification was That unclear on what was happening.
I had to search around in order to find out that it was just the TOS and PP merging. How frustrating that was.

I've noticed about SmugMug is "acquiring" Flickr. I hope that will be a good thing. For now, it sounds like they are going allow Flickr to remain as is - at least for now. But - we'll see what changes are implemented - in time.

Let me know what you think of SmugMug....

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "auto upload". I can upload a photo from my phone to Flickr by clicking the photo, then clicking the "share" symbol, then choosing Flickr. Then you can choose the album where it's to go, and whether it's to be public or locked. I tag later. One thing i can't get it to do is upload a group of photos - only one at a time, and that's a PITA.

I would like to make sharing to outside websites - like Live Journal - easier - like using less keystrokes.

Oh -- ok. Personally not sure I want that -- so many photos require deletion - not uploading! LOL!

Photos (on my android) auto upload to Google, but - like you said - you can't share to other sites - like LJ - from there, so that's a bust.

Smugmug says Flickr will remain as is. It will merely be owned by them.

I hate Google photos, but have to use it at work all the time. If you go to any photo, select it, and right-click on it you can get a shareable link.

Hi!
You are optimist!

This will be the end of the free Flickr :(

Yes, it is logical. But there can be advertising, sponsors. And in Terms of Service there is no guarantee of reliability.
