There's a guy who swims pretty regularly at the same time I do and he's my favorite because he's actually slower than I am. Not by much but it helps my swimming self esteem to be able to best a young, fit guy. Mainly it's his technique that's holding him back. He's a flailer. But, alas, he was there today with a coach who was showing him how to do it right. So... my days of beating the stud are coming to an end... sigh.
I'd love to get a swimming lesson but I don't know why. I don't really need to swim faster. If I do, I'd have to swim longer so why bother. Just this very minute a NYT headline popped up in my twitter feed about High tech swim suits raising questions about elitism and whether children are being taught that success can be bought. It's issues like this that make me grateful to be at the end of my life.
And speaking of end of life... I have a Google alert set up for my name. Often it sends me links to this journal. But, just as often it sends me links to a dentist in Illinois and a woman who works with conservation issues in Australia and a Susan Dennis who does restaurant reviews in Palm Beach, FL.
Yesterday I got notice that Susan Dennis died last week. This particular Susan Dennis was 2 years older than I am and in Florida. I was afraid, initially, that it was restaurant review Susan Dennis but, I just saw a tweet from her so it must be another Floridian Susan Dennis. There are a lot of us, we can spare a few.
Today's agenda items are nail polish and the library. And cutting out the rest of this black fabric.
I've got a hard on for painted nails again. Spending an hour in the water every day precludes regular nail polish. Gel polish applied by a professional works perfectly in every way except two... I hate having to sit across from a manicurist and watch her work. (Professional gel polish requires updates every 2 to 3 weeks and if/when you give up, it's a bitch to get off and my nails take a month to recover.) Plus I hate the cost ($30+ every 2 to 3 weeks). So that's really two.5 reasons it's not my choice.
Now they have this hybrid polish that is kind of gel but in a more simple do it at home way. I can't find any reviews of swimmers who use it but other reviews seems like it might hold up. I think I'm going to try it.
I have a hold ready for me to pick up at the library and today seems the best day to do that.
I have a pile of black pant fabric on the kitchen counter. I have been dragging it out about once a week and then putting it back because I was tired of looking at it and couldn't be bothered to cut it. This time, I'm going to cut. Two, maybe three pairs of pants. Then they will be ready for sewing next time I need pants. I might cut out a swimsuit and lining, too. And then I can have my kitchen counter and table back.
The Mariners play in Detroit today so early game. Yeah!

And it makes it last two weeks. I’ve never gotten a full gel manicure, but I like to think this hybrid is a good option.

Date: 2018-05-11 07:14 pm (UTC)I still look at Youtubes for assistance. And in fact just learned today not to cup your hands when you're pulling the water, but rather keep the fingers slightly separated. But taking lessons got me started.
And besides, what's that old blues lyrics ... "I'm built for comfort, not speed."
