I was thinking exactly the same thing about a Hindu parade in Flushing I was watching on TV. The colors were so beautiful! The deities, flowers, the filling of the mandalas with colored sand... what a gorgeous and fun exposure of all bright colors!
I don't like their food. I don't really understand their culture or religion but man oh man do they have the most marvelous colors. I had a Sikh boss once who was an ok manager and a hilarious human being. But mostly he was a smoker and so was I so we spent a lot of time just puffing and shooting the shit. He was very open and inviting to all questions about Sikh and it was fascinating.
You’d get into basmati rice. Come on, that aroma. I even got my parents into “the Indian rice,” so good. Yeah this woman (a doctor, and the.. priestess? of the temple) had me in tears at the end talking about education (about their culture/all cultures). Apparently their migration started (heavily) only in the 60’s thanks to the J-1 Visa introduced by Kennedy. So it’s all fairly new here. I’ve been dabbling in it for years, since I started doing yoga in college. It’s really beautiful. I bet there must be some kind of religious/spiritual explanation for the use of color, though it speaks for itself.
