Ally!

For years, June has brought a struggle. Gay pride month is littered with beautiful, colorful messages of Pride. But, as a straight person, I always felt funny wearing or toting the rainbows. I felt like I was trying to pretend I was gay. To take credit for something I had nothing to do with. I can't really and shouldn't be taking "pride" in any of it. But I do want to support and want everyone to know I support. Every car I've had for the past 25 years has had one bumper sticker on the back - a rainbow flag with the word 'Friendly' across it. But that symbol seems more evergreen than Yeah!! It's Pride Month!!

(Straight but not Narrow is also kind of evergreen and I've always thought it was a little snotty. I don't want to throw shade on other straight people, I want to encourage and invite them to join me.)

But, this year, my struggle is over. I have not only the correct phrase but my own logo!!! I'm a Gay Ally! An LBGTQ Ally! A Straight Ally. I ordered the t-shirt. And a sticker just to be on the safe side. My struggle is at an end.

Zoey continues to worry me but I think I'm just over-fretting. She slept in this morning but when she finally did get up, she discovered the terrace door was open and hopped up onto the ledge to discuss boundaries with the birds. Then she had breakfast. Now she's in my lap with her head resting on my arm. She has the runs again so we're back on pumpkin.

Tonight is a Diamond Club night for me. I have the scooter charging up and I need to clean out and restock my game backpack. It's going to be a chilly night to be sitting outside which is fine by me. I'll take chill over bake any time.

I think today is laundry day. I did not get around to fixing that sewing failure yesterday. I just couldn't face it. Maybe today.

Poor Zoey, pumpkin is just a bandaid for the problem. Change protein source in her food. Is she on grain free?

That's awesome! I always felt the same way, being bisexual, I always felt like (true or not), lesbians kind of shunned me because I wasn't gay and that I didn't really understand their struggle. I still feel a little awkward about vocalizing my support but I realize this is the time to get over that.

Ah, I want that on a shirt too - preferably one that i wouldn't have to order from another continent - and ouch, I may actually need it in my own language!

Anyway, Sofia Pride is on 9 June, so there is no time to order anything from anywhere, but this time I may even be able to buy a rainbow-something shirt on the spot - yet I myself have that odd feeling of being an "impostor" when looking at merchandise meant primarily for actual LGBTI people. Which is odd because 1. probably at least half of us going there are straight and 2. I'm generally acknowledged as an activist.
