Happy President's day
Feb. 20th, 2006 09:31 amThere was a silly article in the newspaper this morning about local people who share the same name as former presidents. I really wanted to send the reporter a sympathy card.
I remember well my first job at a real newspaper - the Wheeling News Register. The city editor (read 'boss') was a disagreeable ugly old man with the worst breath on the planet. He was forever coming up with the stupidest assignments. One of them was when he had me get out the Wheeling phone book and hunt for names of famous people and call them and ask them how they liked having the same name as a famous person. As I type that now, I'm trying to remember exactly why I didn't quit then. In fact, I worked at 2 other newspapers after that. Never had a city editor that bad again but still.

Date: 2006-02-20 10:19 pm (UTC)Years ago before the tunnel on route 70 and the bypass we used to drive thru Wheeling on our way to and from Ohio. On the top of a very steep hill there was a statue of a man and a horse. Well we never had time to stop and see what that was about (did he jump with his horse off of the hill etc....we assumed it was something to do with the Revolutionary War). So what if anything do you know about this.
