Potatoe (political spelling) in the bathroom sink

Washing dishes in the bathroom is not just a counter real estate problem. That poor little drain wasn't made for dinner. I try to be careful about what sluices off but I finally unscrewed the stopper and found a bit of potato... Also a lot of yuck. So I took a stiff brush to it all and around the mouth of the drain and it's actually draining much nicer now. I have a better system so I think we're cool for the time being. At least for the next 24 hours.

In the elevator, I ran into a worker guy who's working on the unit across the hall. I came very close to asking if I could hire him to fix. But, I decided it wasn't nice to poach Doug and Renae's workers and I feel like tomorrow's guy really will show up and he's a real plumber so might as well get it done correctly.

I did, in fact, use up two pieces of fabric that I really thought I'd never find a use for and made some nice wide shorts/culottes. Simple with a pocket. They are super comfy. Problem solved.



Murphy's Law says those other shorts will show up before dinner. Speaking of which, I have a couple of nice freezer/microwave options or 13 Coins. A big part of my bathroom dish washing plan is to avoid having to do any dish washing!

Oh and I made 8 breakfast burritos. Only a pan and scraper needed to be washed there so yeah. My house cleaner has been bringing me fresh from the chicken eggs every time. A Dozen. Most of the dozen she brought yesterday were fresh from the grocery store. I love that 1. she's working to keep the egg commitment she made and 2. she thinks I wouldn't notice to store bought. I'm fine with the whole thing. I just think it's funny.

I am all of a sudden so chatty in the comments lately. I am curious how you tell store bought from fresh from chicken hiney? Legitimately I would not know.

Great question.

Chicken hiney eggs are generally smaller but mostly they are all different sizes - not the uniform color and size of store bought. Some are blue. Most have a little barn dirt decorating the shell.

But, once you crack one open, it's very obvious. Hiney egg yokes are a blood orange color. Here! I found a photo that shows the diff:

Thank you so much! Today I learned something pretty cool! We have several farms near us that offer fresh eggs and such I will have to swing by and pick some up for when next I bake.

This is really interesting. I never paid much attention to the color of egg yolks, I guess because I eat eggs so rarely they all pretty much look the same to me, but I remember when I lived in Australia my Canadian mother in law remarked on this. She was bowled over by the eggs she got in Australia, saying it's amazing how orange the yolks were and how much better they taste. I figured it must have to do with the feed? I wonder if every country has a different yolk color based on regulations of what factory farmers can feed their chooks.

Interesting question about different countries/different eggs.

The chickens do lay different colored eggs, blue, pink, white, brown, depending on the kind of chicken and, I think, their diet. But I've never compared the yolk color to the outside color. There's another egg q!

Can you tell the difference by tasting them? (A few years ago one of our friends was selling chicken-fresh eggs, and we bought some and fried up two each of the fresh and store-bought, and couldn't really detect any difference. But then again we broke one of the yolks so it wasn't really a fair test.)

If you promise not to tell... especially don't tell my brother or my house cleaner... They both think the from the directfromthechicken ones are way way way better.

I cannot taste one bit of difference. So far I've had them scrambled, fried, boiled - hard/soft, omelette. I don't even need a blind test. I cannot tell one from the other taste-wise.

And in the UK we don't refrigerate our eggs in the supermarket. I used to at home, but they took up too much space in my little fridge, so now they just sit in their box on the counter top.

Yeah, your fridges are tiny. I think (I could be very wrong) that they treat the eggs here (shells) to a cleaning process that makes non-refrigeration problematic.

But, even I, with only me to serve, have a gynormous fridge. So that's where my eggs live :)
