Up at 5:30, showered, dressed, got coffee and out the door by 10 of 6. The 40 minute commute took me 40 minutes instead of the usual hour. Go figure. So I'm in the parking lot ready for my 7 a.m. meeting at exactly 6:30.

But the meeting was great. I'd never actually met this customer and she turned out to be perfectly delightful. And she turned out to be an excellent student which worked out well since I basically suck as a teacher. But, she caught on fast and was fun to spend the time with. And she bought me breakfast at a kitchy place that had a great breakfast.

But it was nearly noon before I got home and I hit about 2 hours of non-billable work and stuff that had to be done. Then I worked with my problem client and got him all fixed, did a couple of other bits and here we are.

The Mom Report

In the middle of working on the other bits the phone rang. It was Mom.

"Polly's really tired and I don't think she has the energy to call you with an update on me so I just thought I'd do it."

Seriously. And then she wanted to know what was so funny.

She sounded as congested and hoarse as yesterday and about as confused but she's hanging in. All the medication is making her hands shake which is keeping her from the crossword puzzles "which is really annoying" and she has eye floaters "but they aren't too bad" but she did have one major gripe.

"I keep meaning to ask you, what has happened with Two and a Half Men? That show used to be funny and that kid was always saying cute stuff and now it's just boring."

I told her that they would likely soon be doing reruns on some channel or another and TiVo would let her know. She's my comic relief.

Oh and I did hear from my brother. He's going to hop out to see her for Mother's Day - made his reservations already. It's the perfect deal for both of them.

Your mother is great, a tough old lady with a sense of humor. I hope she gets through this.

Your mother is a real character. I can we only hope we all retain our wits and humor like she has. Make getting old seem like less of a chore, somehow.

I know that as a reader of your journal, I indirectly learn many valuable things. With thanks to you and your Mom. I'm wishing her well.
