It's chore day. I have a list. Nothing thrilling or exciting - things like:

get the carpet for the terrace out of the car
clean the trash and stuff out of the car
clean the toilets
clean the bathroom sink area

etc...

But, I don't have to vacuum. The new Roomba arrived yesterday afternoon. I charged it last night and hit the 'clean' button this morning so that it could do the front half (the living room/kitchen) area while I had coffee and read the paper in bed. It did a fine job - zippy and full of purpose. Betty, I think had forgotten about the Roomba... Plus she was in her early morning kitten mode... so she chased it and ran from it and watched it and generally spent the entire time trying to get it to play with her. Jake curled up at the end of the bed, basically taking the high road.

It's now charging and getting ready to do the bedroom/fishroom half of the joint. Nice.

My friend Susan lives about 30 miles south of here in a little town that is totally not familiar to me. The idea of my driving there even with GPS is just not my idea of fun. But, she really wants me to come see her house and meet her new boyfriend who is neither new any more nor a boy but, according to her, a very nice man. As luck would have it, she's in town this afternoon working at the Home Show which is across the street. And our friend Kenny needs to come to her house to help her with a computer problem. Sooooooo I'm going to ride home with her after the Home Show for dinner and an evening with her and Bill and Kenny and computers and visiting and then Kenny will bring me home. Perfect!

I need a good telephone headset. The one I have now is cumbersome to get on - especially in a hurry - and it muffles the sound so that unless the person on the other end of the call has a booming voice, I cannot hear them well.

I always get so befuddled by telephone stuff. The documentation/marketing stuff is never clear when they talk about volume control. Is it the noise level of my voice speaking? The caller's voice speaking? The ringer? Geesh. I stopped at Staples last night to see if they had anything that looked promising and basically I could not tell. They had a $20 model that looked just like the $40 model and then we went to $140 but the packaging all basically promised 'volume control' without mentioning volume of what and 'fabulous sound with noise canceling'... I just want to hear my clients. Sheesh.

And, finally, Mom. I sent her an email this morning - just testing the computing waters - my email was just chatty about this and that - nothing critical and nothing she would feel compelled to respond to.

But, I got a long chatty note right back! She said they were having chili for lunch so she had ready a little bag of chili powder, chips and salsa. "They don't know how to make chili right but I can fix it." And she has a plan for getting rid of her sitters. She's clearly on her way back. Amazing.

My brother is trying to set up a webcam for her in his shop. But he is struggling with the software, ftp and the html code. I offered to help but I think he waited too long to vent and now he's too frustrated to fuck with it any more. Maybe one day.

Time for me to get to work...

Doesn't your brother run a computer fix it kind of place? Surely someone can help him.

Roomba, I am so jealous. I need one. I wonder what the birds will think of that? Everything freaks them out.

Heh. I sometimes fantasize about roomba, but our place has too many steps.

I love your Mom's "chili fix-its!"

(hmmm wonder if I can send her some good, and genuine spicy stuff from down here in Southern California?)

And more importantly....heh..would love to hear her "plan" for getting rid of the sitters.

What great fun and entertainment your MOM is ...just in her daily living plans!

Your mother is a woman after my own heart. I take my own things into places to spice up meals too. I like spice spice spice!

Uh-oh. Judging from your description of your mom, she just might find naughty things to do with a webcam, mightn't she? ;-)
