I love Diet Dr. Pepper. I have for years and years. Every since it first came out in the mid 80's. When I lived in Minnesota, I could only get it in cans but this one grocery store always had a case for me. When I was living in California, they finally got 2-litre bottles. I like this better because:

1. I hate having to squish all the cans and
2. I hate having to deal with unsquished cans if I don't
3. I like that it loses a little of the fiz as you drink the 2-liter bottle down
4. Sometimes I only need a half a glass
5. It's cheaper in the 2-litre bottles

When I moved to Seattle, I ran into a problem. Some stores did not carry it at all. And some barely had cans. It was a desperate situation. One Saturday, I was at a Safeway and there was a Customer Service person who looked nice and and wiling to talk so I asked her if she had any advice and she said, 'heck, I'll bet if you talked to Duane, he'd order you whatever you wanted!' Turned out she was right. Duane turned out to be a wonderful thing.

I'd call him and tell him hit was time. He'd order up the goods and call me when they came in. I'd go to the back of the store and wrestle up a stock boy who would find my stash. It worked great for a couple of years and then one day I went to pick up my stash and Duane was there and the stash was not and he said 'ohhh dear, I guess someone put it on the shelf and it sold out.'

I pointed out that we could be looking at a clear cut case of WHY DON'T YOU STOCK IT??!! He agreed. And then everyone in town had it but never enough. I like to lay in a lot of 2-litre bottles. I mean what if I were house bound and couldn't get out and ran out??!!

Then there was Home Grocer.Com. Those wonderful folks would deliver as much Diet Dr. Pepper as I wanted. They were wonderful. And then they went under. And Albertson's and Safeway started delivering. Albertson's used to be good but never had enough Diet Dr. Pepper and would only let me order 18 at a time. And then they got sloppy. Safeway used to be kind of not good but they got better and now they are excellent.

The last time I ordered, I sent them a note saying that if they could not bring me all the Diet Dr. Pepper in my order, to please cancel the order. I got a great note back from a woman who gave me the secret code. I go online and order up however many I want. Then I get the order number. Then I call them up and give them the order number, then they can make sure the pick up place has however many I need.

I just tried it for the first time and got the GREATEST customer service guy. He was so with the program. Monday morning, my Diet Dr. Pepper ship will be in (but I told him that if they didn't have enough for Monday, Tuesday would be fine, too).

Ha! That's my most favorite drink ever. I had to reduce my caffeine intake because of high blood pressure, so I've been drinking Caffeine-Free DDP (which is difficult enough to find, and only sold around here in 24 pack cans, sigh)

I've seen the caffeine-free DDP in 2-liters in Wisconsin, but nowhere else really locally :o( I suppose if I pressured Meijer some they'd carry some 2-liters, they're pretty good about trying to accomodate requests like that, and since they're so large they can actually buy it enough bulk to make it feasable for them to continue carrying it. Oh well. It's just a drink ;o)

Manna of the gods!!!

I love the DP, but have to lay off the caffeine intake, so I've been relegating myself to Fresca. Wow, I didn't even know DDP existed!

Sometimes it's the small victories that really make a difference ;-)

that's the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. so you have to call and tell them what you just told them (by placing an order) so they can be sure to get it right?!?

that's why i dumped safeway--they left me without important stuff more than a few times and i got tired of "well, you have to work our system this way" ... i actually refused my last delivery from them (i told them, in the notes part of the order, that if they didn't have the cat litter then they shouldn't bring anything, and they didn't get to that part of the order--they brought everything EXCEPT the item i asked them to bring ... )

i miss webvan.

Well well well. I think your addiction is alright so far, but if you ever find yourself 'mainlining' it, I think you should seek help. I'll be down the hall at the coffee addicts meeting.
