So last week I broke a $13 lamp. It's one that Sheri got last year at Ikea. I love the lamp. Ikea still carries it and so even though their online ordering process bites the big one and taxes and shipping double the price, I ordered it anyway. Had I gotten into the car, driven the 30 someodd miles to the closest store, it would have probably cost me 10 times that - if not at Ikea, then at Walmart which is right down the street. Since I love both and rarely get to either, it would have been a spending spree of massive proportions... so I just paid the $26.10.

I super glued the the two big chunks that broke off and waited.

Besides their archaic ordering system, I think they also ship via dog sled rolling on Swedish meat balls. No telling when I'll ever see the damn thing.

But, you know what? It's ok.

Roomba was just working away down at that end of the house when I heard a huge crash. I went down to look and the Roomba had gotten tangled in the cord of THAT SAME LAMP, knocked it over and broke it even more!

The miracle is that the lamp is sitting right next to another one. My general luck would have been that Roomba would break the one I didn't and I'd be forking over another $26.10. But, not this time.

Weird. So. Now. Am I grateful that the broken lamp is the one that got broken? OR am I worried that I have now used up some good luck karma on a stupid $13 lamp?!

At least you know that the cord can get tangled up in. That's some new knowledge.
