I totally understand why Columbus Day has been changed to Indigenous People Day. I get it, but I was not offended by Columbus Day. I understand why the Atlanta and Cleveland baseball teams have names that offend some. But none of that bothers me much.

I'm offended by people buy ripped jeans. I think there's little more insulting to those who cannot afford clothes that don't need mending.

I'm offended by people speaking in accents that are not their own.

I used to be horrified when most people describe women as bitches, dames, babes, chicks. Now, with a couple of exceptions dependant on context and tone, it doesn't bother me. Oddly when a man refers to his wife as The Wife, that just drives me nuts.

But, really, the older I get the less I'm offended by much.

It can be exhausting to ensure we respect the sensibilities of everyone we meet but, the older I get, the more important I think it is. And, the more that when those sensibilities are ridiculed by others, the more I see societal breakdowns.

We used to have a neighbor who would call me WOMAN, He and I got into an argument about it one day. It was his tone and the derogatory way he said it that bothered me.

"I'm offended by people buy ripped jeans." GOD me too...that and people that wear jeans with such a low waist that we need to see the cracks of their asses. As for people speaking in accents other than their own - I have to. I am American but I live in France and must speak the language and if I do it in an American accent, it sounds bad, first, and second, the words would not be understood. As for offending others..it is very exhausting and you can not always be PC...the bottom line though is as always - treat others as you want to be treated. Period,

It bugs me to hear anyone refer to a female when speaking of a human being. I was a girl, now I'm a woman and if you like you can call me by my name.

I have no real feelings about the whole Columbus Day/Indigenous People's day debate, but I did find myself remembering the little Columbus song I learned in grade school way back when.
