I love my deli across the street. I could easily make my own lunch for far cheaper. Their food is good. Some of it is spectacular. But when it comes right down to it, I think the biggest value to me is getting out and going across the street and opening up that door and hearing 'Susan!!! Hi!!!" from all the people in there. Every single time. It's like their day sucked before they saw my face. I love that. I do.

Today, I ran that silly book up to the library and then stopped at my second favorite take out place - Seattle's Best Teriyaki. Since it's a car thing, I pretty much always call ahead - usually from only a few blocks away. By the time I get parked, get in and pay up, my order is ready. Today, I popped in without calling. It was close to lunch time and I figured I could people watch while I waited. I walked in and the young woman at the counter looked at me like I had just given her the biggest, most wonderful surprise... "Susan!!! You no call?! You break phone? Chicken bowl, right?" I love my peops.

Then I got home to a note from Sheri that really made me whiney. I wanted to charge my appliances on my Discover card. (Cash back!) I gave her the card number a while back and we were all set. Now she says the place does not take Discover. Fuck that?! Then she says that they will only install the refrigerator. I knew the microwave and stove top needed special installation but I want that fucking dishwasher installed the minute it hits town. Nope, she says now that she did not say they would install the dishwasher. She did say they would haul away all the old appliances. So now it's looking like I will have a working refrigerator and uninstalled microwave, stove top and dishwasher. But what really made me whiney was that this was not all totally nailed down BEFORE WE ORDERED FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!

Oh and the hardware to turn my coffee table into a dining room table arrived yesterday but apparently, in all of the greater Seattle municiple area the very soonest she could find anyone to install it was Friday morning at 7. Color me less than thrilled.

So... back to the inbox and there was a note from Patricia Minton of www.mitans-uniqueboutique.com announcing that she now has... in stock... Turquoise Crocs!!! There was no way I could order mine fast enough. This little shop is quite the mystery. They have one of the worst websites on the face of the earth. They have only rudimentary computer knowledge and skills. (There were actually three copies of the note from her in my inbox - fortunately, they send out mass mailings very infrequently.) But gosh darnit, she has my shoes. At a good price. No sales tax and my favorite words in the whole world 'free shipping'! Last time I got shoes from her it took two days from the time I hit 'order' until I had those babies on my feet.

Customers are calling... back to work for me.

Around Christmas colorful Crocs finally showed up in my area (prior to that I found navy, black, khaki - boring colors.) I'm an instant gratification junkie and HORRIBLE about returning mail order stuff so I had to wait for a brick-and-mortar store to get them. Of all places, our local mainstream "health food" store - Henry's Market which I think is the same as Wild Oats - decided to carry them.
They live on a vertical twirly rack - I'll have to post a photo. I think you'll get a kick out of it.

They sell for around $33 or $34; I know you're getting a better deal.

Yay! We get to be mad at Sheri on your behalf again! This is going to be fun! Well not so much for you, but I'm selfish like that.

Plus I think of your deli stories when ever I get general's chicken. I finally fuond a place that uses spice as an accent, not as a punishment. I am a wuss about spices that burn your mouth, but I love the flavor.
