One of the things I love about Sheri is that she never ever tells me that I can't do something. And she rarely, if ever, tells me that what I want is a bad idea. I haven't used the oven of my stove in years and years so why have it?

She designed, with great care and attention to all the detail, a cabinet to go where the stove is now and host the cooktop. She found me a cooktop. And never told me - as many of my friends did - that the idea was not bright.

But, I knew it was out of the ordinary. What I didn't know was how extremely expensive it would be. For the cost of the cooktop, I can get a stove and save the cost of custom cabinetry. And even though the cooktop has already been ordered and we're about half pregnant there, she did not bat an eyelash and easily officered me the option of changing my mind.

So I'm buying a new stove instead. It's ok. I've come to terms with it. It was my decision and it also means that installation will be easy and free. She's off to find me one that is available. It will be fine. No one says I have to use it.

And I have the hardware to turn the coffee table into a pop top sitting right here. John the installer comes tomorrow morning first thing to install it. Excellent.

Plus, Keiran called about 10:30 and asked if he could have an hour's worth of advice over coffee and he sounded like he really wanted to do it today so I suggested lunch. He came by and we went up to the Vietnamese place - The Tamirand Tree - that Lee and I went to a few weeks ago. It was WONDERFUL! Yumilicious. And he was happy with his advice. All is good.

I need to give work at least another hour. So I will.

It's good you are getting a new stove and oven. You have a place to keep your shoes.....

Wouldn't the space be better used for your TiVo server farm?

Well, the kids tend to leave them laying all over the living room. Handy for them when they're in a hurry, but dangerous to anybody who wanders around the house in the dark of the night.

You could store buns in your oven.

Or something.

You need a personal chef to come there and cook in your oven for you. I would love to be a personal chef.

are great places for storing stuff like pots and pans (nothing with a plastic handle just in case you forget they're in there).

In english english, the Stove *is* the cooktop - I believe it's from an old Scottish word. Sometimes we use the word to describe an Oven with a Stove on top, too, but there always has to be the top part to call it a stove. ..So your post confused me briefly :)

A friend of mine has a mother who never uses her oven. She got one with a large internal area relative to space occupied, and uses it as storage for her larger cookware.

I can't believe it's such an expense option though! It's quite standard here - we have a gas stove and seperate electric oven in the space underneath - others have the oven in the wall at the same level as the stove, which is set in a bench.. my sister's house has a serperate stove set into the bench, and she has a freestanding oven/stove combo deal as well.
