Saturday...
Mar. 11th, 2006 09:37 amI called Mom today and got Mary - the World's Best Sitter - who said Mom was doing her nebulizer thing and did I want to talk to her. I said not to interrupt and just ask her to call me if she got the time.
A little later Mom called. Her voice was tired and tiny and wheezy but her words were Good Old Mom "So, I'm assuming Polly called you and told you what a bitch I was yesterday and you are just calling to make sure she's right?"
Ha! I was really flattered though to find out we are on the same page still. I had asked Polly to be on the hunt for ways we could do nice things for Mary. We can't really pay her more because it would cause trouble for her with her peers (I'm simplifying but that's the gist of what Mary told Polly). But Polly has found two instances recently to slip her some extra with a good excuse and I've told her to please do it.
One of the things that Mary does that the others never did was when Mom is on the phone, Mary just disappears. This means so much to Mom. So this morning, when Mary disappeared Mom asked me to make sure we paid Mary extra for those two instances and I told her we were all over it. Nice.
She also talked a little about how she's feeling and she says that she thinks most of her breathing problems are in her head. She said that she starts gasping a little and then gets worried and that makes her gasp more. Especially at night. She's afraid she won't be able to get her breath in her sleep. But, she says the doctor knows about it and she just needs to 'think differently.'
And she said that she did sleep much better last night. Plus today the movie, Fiddler on the Roof, is on the TV and she has TiVo all set up and ready. She loves that music and loves the story and she can watch and nap and watch it over again. She's planning to make it last several days.
We are back to no weather... sun, no rain, no thunder, no snow, 63 degrees. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
I have some work work that I can do today and I think I will.
