So I decided to do one load of laundry. The fucking washing machine door which never closes easily would not close. After a million tries, I finally got it closed and the washer going but...

Last Load For You, Bitch

I put on my coat and got in the car and drove down the road to the appliance place. I walked in and 5 people were sitting there waiting on their next customer.

"I need someone to sell me a washer/dryer, please," said the new favorite person of all of them but, particularly of the one who's turn it was to get an off-the-street-bluebird.

In 20 minutes I had bought, paid for and scheduled delivery of



It cost me almost nearly exactly the amount left in the pile I had been saving to pay those taxes. So taxes paid and new washer/dryer that won't fight me with every load. Win win win win

Oh, good. It looks like you did not get the Frigidaire that we just purchased. The one we got gets the job done, but it's annoying. It beeps about EVERYTHING. You opened a door? BEEP. There's lint in the trap? BEEP! Load of laundry is done? BEEP. Beeeeeeep. BEEEEEEP. Hey, the laundry's still done. BEEEP! You haven't pushed any buttons for a few minutes? I will BEEEEEEP before I go to sleep. And there's no option to turn the beeps off. :D

OMG! how annoying! I asked for the most stripped down model they had. Fewest options, please. They narrowed it down to Whirlpool or GE but they pointed out that the Whirlpool controls are on the very top of the machine - for tall people only. So I got GE.

I did not even think to ask about the beeping. I hope this one comes with laryngitis.

I wish I'd thought to ask about it. But, then, who would make a machine that beeped about everything? I didn't even know that was a thing someone would make! :D

The lower controls were the tiebreaker for us, too.

Ours plays Dixie or some other little tune. Other than that and the end-of-cycle buzzer, it's stripped down and quiet.

Ours beeps rather faintly (if we're sitting at the breakfast table, I can usually hear it and my husband can't, because my seat is nearer to the laundry room), and the only really annoying thing about the beeps is that the washer thinks it must offer its three beeps three times at 5-second intervals, even if you've already opened the door.

I feel like having a workable washer dryer improves the quality of life. Yay for you getting a new one!

it seems silly with no kids or even other humans to get all hung up on old lady laundry but, yeah, future loads will be happier.
