A few weeks ago, a woman I'd not seen before came into the pool area while I was swimming. She sat on the edge of the pool for a while. When I got there and as I turned to looked at her and said very cheerily "Good Morning!" and gave her a smile. I do this with everyone who comes into the pool when I'm swimming. I like them to know they are swimming with a nice person and not some mean swimming snob. (And there are plenty of those.)

Later when I was getting dressed after my shower, she popped up next to me and said "Thank you so much for that Good Morning. I was just not feeling it and almost deciding to abandon the whole swim idea. But you made me feel so welcome I swam instead and I am so glad I did so THANK YOU!" It was cute and sweet.

This morning I had the pool to myself until the end of my swim. My swim was kind of a slog. I had to wear the polaroid goggles because the sun was blasting in and killing my eyes. The polaroid goggles help tremendously with the sun glare but are, otherwise, horrible to swim with. I can't see much of anything with them. But, I got to my mile and it was ok. As I was taking off my goggles and earbuds the other swimmer stopped and said "You are such a strong swimmer!!"

That just instantly turned my slog swim into a Victory For The Day. At least at the pool anyway, compliments are never wasted!

I stopped at the grocery on the way home. Again, I remembered to look at my list. I am getting to be a list ninja! I have moved back from Google Keep to Google Shopping list because of the 'hey, google, add xxx to my shopping list' feature. It's pretty solid in terms of always working plus I like the little food pictures.

I have, here in the living room, a magazine and two actual books with pages (as opposed to ebooks I always have with me and so are always available). They sit here unread and are driving me crazy. I never seem to have the time to read them. Which in my case, since I have all the time in the world, means I never make time to read. I listen to an audio book every night for an hour but I can play video games while I do that. I can't do much of anything while I'm holding a pages book except read.

So, starting today, with my second cup of coffee, I will be reading one of the things with pages here in the living room. If it's only for 10 minutes, that's fine. I just need to make it a habit. Every. Day.

It's now Second Cup Of Coffee time. So, scuse me while I grab some pages to read.

I had to do the same thing to catch up on a huuuuge backlog of comic books - set my goal as one comic a day, and have *almost* caught up on the backlog, as well as keeping up on the new stuff.

I like your "list ninja" turn of phrase!
I've become one too.

Not long after we moved into this house five years ago, I got a bit fed up with driving to the store only to discover I'd left the shopping list at home (it's not too far to the grocery store, considering we live out in the country... but 10-15 minutes there, 10-15 minutes back and then repeating the process after grabbing the shopping list can seriously add up) and told my husband "It's too bad there isn't a device we can get to put on the side of the fridge, where would could enter the shopping list and have it sync to our phones!" We actually went looking at interactive whiteboards, but at the time none of them would integrate with other computers and devices the way we wanted. About half an hour later, I realized we had a Surface RT sitting around in our living room getting used primarily to look things up on IMDb. So, we set about brainstorming what we would want in an app to handle the shopping list, so we working on coding it up... but fortunately decided to go take a look to see if such a program already existed. And it did.

I don't recall what the original program was called, but it was purchased by Microsoft and became Onelist and it was *awesome*... we could enter stuff on the tablet mounted to the fridge, and it would auto-update to the cloud for us to look at on our phones, which would also auto-update to the cloud (this came in handy a time or two when we were both at different grocery stores shopping at the same time, without knowing it). Eventually, we got the Kitchen Computer up and running and quit using the RT... and then Onelist got discontinued recently, but we switched over to Microsoft To Do, which I think I actually like better. Technically, all of the programs we've been using were intended for tasks, but we've got about eight different kinds of shopping lists shared between us on it and it works great.

I think we could even tie it into the Echo if we wanted, but so far it's been just as convenient to pull it up on a computer or a phone. But I gotta say... I love modern technology!

I got my book reading mojo back last month and am SO glad now I did. When I retired and we moved here to Sweden, we moved over 3000 books with us, two-thirds of which had not been read. The first year it was, we are working on the house and are SO tired at the end of the day. The second year, we are working on gardens and outbuildings and are SO tired. No excuse last year, so this year, I decided it was time. Ray is kind of in love with his Kindle and they are handy, but I have no excuse. I have now finished 40 books since January.

How wonderful that a smile and a hello actually made someone's day. I love that ♥

I have a Kindle, but admit to being more in love with the printed page and mostly read actual books. My living room is crammed with full bookcases as The Swede is also an avid reader. I make time every day to read, which is a habit I started as a child. My mother always complained that I had my nose in a book, but I think of them as dear friends.

I’ve been making a concerted effort to read my print library books. It is a struggle for me as well, sitting down with an actual book in hand. I’ve been ruined by technology, instant gratification and mindless entertainment. I’m working to reverse that in two ways: reading print and getting out and socializing with people face-to-face.
