This is the distance I just walked from here to the Japanese Grocery store. Just over a half mile one way. I am exhausted.

1. I am out of shape. 2. I am fat. 3. I am old. I suspect that it's 50% 1, 25% each 2 and 3. I don't use my legs/center enough when I swim plus, honestly, I just float and flap my arms. Clearly not enough to stay in shape.

My back is the real problem. Not true. It's my lazy ass that's the real problem. Arugh. When my company comes at the end of the month, I'm not going to have enough stamina to keep up with them.

So, from now until I'm 70 (22 days), I will walk every day even if it is only around the block. No cheating. No excuses. When I'm 70, I can be as lazy as I want.

On the up side, I have poke for lunch plus yums for dinner and lunch tomorrow.

Was a chunk of that walk really as up hill as the map suggests? I get slightly out of breath doing more than about 20 yards up hill.

Maybe I should walk every day until you are 70, too!

It's kinda depressing the way exercise doesn't seem to generalise. If only you could swim to Uwajimaya:).

I, too, suffer from the Lazy Ass Syndrome. Most of my Good Intentions to do something about my poor condition fade in and out. Currently I'm pretty good about walking a loop or two around inside the office building where I work on both of my 15 minute breaks. It's not much, but it is what I'm managing right now. Hopefully, when Spring gets here, The Boys and I will start outdoor walks in the evenings.

Good luck to you on your daily walks. May the weather cooperate and help make the walks enjoyable.

My mother used to do that when she didn’t feel like going out or if the weather was bad — she’d walk “laps” up and down the hallway outside the apartment.

Sounds like she knew how to adapt to conditions &/or limitations. That's how we get by, sometimes. I won't be getting in 10,000 steps during my two 15 minute breaks, but I'm also not just sitting for those minutes, either.

A bit more each day and you'll soon see an improvement

I too need to get out and walk more than I do when I’m home and don’t have anywhere I have to go. I get some exercise with dancing, but it’s almost certainly not enough. And I can’t get it done before I’m 70.

I read in AARP newsletter a great exercise protocol to follow and am doing it at the gym.
On the treadmill: walk at a reasonable pace,] for 1 1/2 - 2 minutes, then jog/run slowly for 30 seconds, then repeat cycle 5 times. As it gets easier increase the jog interval to 45 seconds, 1 minute, etc. Good way to get your pulse rate up without killing yourself. Increased pulse rate is good for burning off fat. Sometimes I can do 1 1/2 minutes for the jog cycle.
