New rules

IF no pockets, shirt goes to Goodwill. No exceptions. When I first began the Replace All Store Bought Clothes project, I was so focused on fit - shoulder seams, etc. I didn't add pockets unless the pattern called for them. Most patterns don't even give you that option for reasons I cannot fathom.

And once I realized the problem, I fixed it. I add at least one pocket to every single thing I make (except teddy bears and swimsuits). A lot of summer shirts are going to not make the cut so it's time to get back into production.

I fell into it a little this morning. Several weeks ago I cut out a top and never sewed it. So I went to dig that out before the house cleaner arrived and in the course of trying to figure out what I intended to do, I just started assembling the pieces. I'll finish up tomorrow. But the bug has bit so more pockets will be created! Also I found a great sheet at Goodwill that will make a great top.

I popped into Uwajimaya while I was out and scored big in the REDUCED section of their premade items. I got lunch today, dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow. Plus eggrolls, an apple and a tomato for $20. I was pretty jazzed. Until I went to pay and discovered that the latest beta update on my phone incapacitated Google Pay. I had to go back out to the car to get an old fashioned credit card. Sigh.

A guy on Reddit says that he reset his phone back to the regulation operating system and then did the beta again and that brought Google Pay back. That's a lot of shenanigans to jump through on the word of one rando. I think I'll wait for corroborating evidence.

Now I think I'll dig out one of my favorite top patterns and cut into that sheet. While I wait for the baseball game to start.

That blanket is gorgeous. Now though I feel like your bears should really get pockets. Where are they supposed to keep their treasures?

I actually thought that as I was writing it! Poor bears. I do need to reconsider.

Both of you are way ahead of me. I was going to suggest that you consult the bears on this subject, in case they want pockets.

Susan, what about adding pockets to the existing shirts you made, without pockets, that you still really like? I would imagine some of the prints would look great with a solid colored pocket if you no longer have the original fabric. Just a thought ...

yep good idea and one i had. i did hold out a couple that i could add pockets to credibly. the others just didn't have the room or architectural support to accommodate pockets. it's not a fabric issue but one of structural integrity and real estate (not enough room to add a usable patch pocket or sneak one into a seam).

That would be one honkin' family plan for sure! Wonder if there is even porn for teddy bears... I mean maybe you could get them prepaid calls only plans... still, no. Better they don't have pockets.

Years back, practically every pattern that had a blouse or dress in it, gave you choice of sleeves--sometimes you got a bell sleeve as well as the long and short sleeves or even variations on those three.
Found a permanent press sheet at the Goodwill's. Hopefully I'll get the chance this summer to turn it into a blouse.

It appears that in moments of failure to pay attention I have bought a couple of dress shirts that have no pockets. This means that I have to be very careful about what events I wear said shirts to -- nothing with tickets, for example.

When you mentioned pockets on everything except bears and swimsuits, it struck me how handy a swimsuit pocket would be. You could put your locker key in it (if you have such a thing). But then again taking away from a smooth surface might slow you down and destroy your Olympic hopes:).

Having almost completed the big SusanDennisLJ Catchup 2019, I can't believe I still haven't done two things: restart crocheting and swim. I'm close and at the rate you're inspiring me I believe both will happen sooner rather than later. I've been crocheting off and on since I was twelve and I have never worked up a piece as lovely as this blanket. It is so beautiful.

Congrats on your achievement!! I can't get enough crochet these days. For so many years I didn't know how and then I thought I wasn't doing it right. Now my project queue is never ending. Swimming would be way harder to break into. It took me forever. Like 40 years. But, once you do. Man, just being the water is amazing. There is nothing that makes you feel more graceful and competent!
