Happy Birthday
May. 26th, 2019 12:07 pmThere is a not at all uncommon tradition for birthdays that I only learned about on Instagram. The whole family makes breakfast a special breakfast for the birthday person and delivers it as a wakeup call with the happy birthday song.
My family was great for birthdays but we worked on low key birthday greetings all day until after dinner when we got cake and ice cream and song and presents.
One of my favorite Instagram families has an adorable little boy adopted from the Ukraine who turned 4 this morning. He's mostly non verbal with downs syndrome but he's a great communicator and totally up for being 4. His birthday video is one of my very favorites. (He bed is tented because he get extra oxygen while he sleeps.)

I've never heard of the morning thing for birthdays either. In our family it has always been say happy birthday in the morning, have a normal day, and then the birthday person got to choose what they wanted for dinner and what kind of cake they wanted. I always chose tuna noodle casserole and funfetti cake with white icing.
I have a friend who believes there is only one kind of cake that qualifies as birthday cake....it is a yellow boxed cake mix with nasty chocolate icing that she makes on the stove. Then she pokes holes in the cake to let the icing sink down when she pours it over. It's really not good, and it makes me sad that her kids have never gotten to pick their cake out....but...to each his own, and that's how she has managed her family.
