Counting the days

I've owned my condo and lived in this building for more than 25 years and probably a dozen building managers. A couple of them have been great. Most have been ok. And a couple have been real pains in my ass.

The one we have now is working hard to ensure he is the Ultimate Pain In My Ass.

He has totally forgotten that he is the employee of the owners of this building, not the employer. We do not work for him.

He crossed a line this afternoon that helps my attitude. It's clear that his gun is loaded and aimed right at his own feet. I just need to stand back and watch.

He will move on and be replaced. I just hope it is sooner than later.

Nah you didn't miss anything. It was just too stupid to detail. But he showed his ass in an email copied to the board president today. She's not one to take shit. It probably won't be right away or maybe even in my lifetime but he won't be here forever. My goal is to avoid him as much as possible.

It's too bad he's forgotten who he really answers to. What a pain. Hopefully he doesn't cause problems for you.

You've dealt with HOAs. Have you ever been on the board? I had an interesting conversation with some of my neighbors on Friday and one approached me about being VP. I'm not entirely sure it's something I want to get involved with but I know nothing about what it entails.

I have never been in the board but have been asked many times. I just don't have the diplomacy for it. But we have 108 units and 10 commercial units so way different deal thank yours. Sounds like in your case it might be a good idea to be on your board with new people buying in. A chance to set rules where needed. Just make sure you have a personal plan for not automatically becoming president (unless you want).

I feel that way about sales reps. Some of my companies hire them in and it’s a short term kind of a job by its nature, and many of these companies I’ve been doing business with for more than a decade. I know they get insulted, but I’m like “just pass me along to your boss, please.” I can’t spend time filling them in on how their job works, and I’m never ever going to be their client. I predate them, and my business with their company will continue on after they expire, and after all these years I’m done pretending that they’re helping me.
