I think my swimmers ear may not be swimmers ear... On and off my ears have itched mightily - not way inside but inside. Once or twice they have gotten very sore. I talked to my doctor about it a while back and he asked 'what happens when you don't swim?' I couldn't answer then, but I can now. No change. I do have antibiotic drops that work well when they get very sore but don't do much for the itch. I wonder if there are little bugs in there.

At least now I don't have to worry that my swimming is the cause! 13 more days of dry dock.

When I was growing up, my mom used bacon grease in a lot of her cooking. Nearly everything she sauteed was sauteed in bacon grease. It was free. She used Crisco shortening for deep fat frying but bacon grease for everything else. So, I did, too. But, a few dozen years or so ago, I found Costco's pre-cooked bacon and I never looked back. I keep in the freezer and pull out one slice or four as needed. Always ready. The down side is that I haven't had any bacon grease in those few dozen years.

Last weekend, in comments mhaithaca planted the idea of being able to buy bacon grease. This had never occurred to me. I found it on Amazon! Last night I had potatoes fried in bacon grease with eggs fried in bacon grease and OMG. So delicious. I now have an ample supply of shelf stable goodness. yeah!

Yesterday, after it warmed up a little, I shut the door but the cats were so sad that I relented and left it open a crack - wide enough for them. Last night, after they ate their dinner, they promptly went outside to play. This cracked me up.

Still no cat tree addition from Poland. Sigh. This morning I took this photo and sent it to him begging him to hurry.



Last night I changed my mind about the quilt biding. I want it bigger. So today, I'll redo what I did before I attach it to the quilt.

And I'll be making a Costco trip when they open at 10.

And then tonight is a Diamond Club night. With karoke fireworks after the game. I'm quite looking forward to it.

I've noticed that TBD seems to be on the roster of lots of teams; he is often the announced pitcher but somehow never takes the mound. The Red Sox have come close to using him a lot lately. (There have been days when he probably would have been better than whoever actually did pitch.)

My parents always used bacon grease too! I haven't thought about that in years. Dad had a coffee can he'd keep by the stove specifically for bacon grease. I didn't know Costco has pre-cooked bacon, I will have to check that out.

Coffee cans have become a rarity, so I now use an empty pasta sauce jar to collect the grease at the stove! But I rarely do a good job of sorting it into reusable grease vs. dirty grease to be thrown away when the jar's full. I should do that more.

Glad the Amazon bacon fat works so well, Susan! Did you toss a couple of strips of Costco bacon in the grease for a minute to add flavor?

I get the same thing with my ears! They itch inside pretty frequently, and then every so often, one of them (usually the left one, which is the one I normally sleep on, so I assumed it was related to that,) get really really sore for a little while... I don't swim very often though, so it's definitely not swimmers ear in my case!

well, i'm not pregnant so we can rule that out, too! so weird and so annoying and my doctor has a massive fit if he thinks i'm sticking a q-tip in there, which I do from time to time but it never seems to help.

I get psoriasis just inside my ear canal, and (with doctor's permission) treat it with a mild steroid ointment; using a q-tip to apply it right around the opening. I do this for 2 or 3 consecutive days every couple of months and the itching clears right up.

VERY interesting. I have spots of a thing that I even forget what it is, sometimes on my face and one on my scalp. Itchy spots. I have two ointments for it - one to fix it and one to stop the itch. They work well. Wonder if this is related and if these ointments would help... hmmmm thanks!

Karoke fireworks? My brain auto-corrected that to Karaoke fireworks and I searched google and found only a Katy Perry song so now I must know...what is this thing of which you speak?

Yeah, I can't spell so.... let's call it sing along. They shoot off fireworks and play music choreographed to the fireworks with the lyrics on the screens so everyone can sing along! hmmm wonder if they will do that Katy Perry song???

What a brilliant idea about bacon grease! I've been known to buy & fry/bake a pound now & then just to get bacon grease. I tried buying a chunk of lard (labeled LARD in big letters, which was amusing) but it wasn't the same thing. Yet again I shall be following a Susan Dennis Tip!

That reminds me of growing up, mom always saved the bacon grease and my oldest sister still does. I saw the precooked bacon the other night at Costco (love that place) will have to pick some up.

My mother cooked with bacon grease as well. I remember the pressed glass container by the stove she would use (Pyrex presumably). Nothing better in the world than frying potatoes and onions in bacon grease.
