He's home and so glad to be here

The vet who checked me out at the emergency clinic was finally one who had met a cat. She gave me a set of written out instructions and told me what would really happen and how to deal with it.

Ice packs for 15 minutes 3-5 times a day. Said the instructions.

If he'll tolerate it at all, it would be great but probably he won't. Said the vet.

Keep him isolated from all other pets. Said the instructions.

I'll bet his brother will be excited to have him for snuggling tonight! Said the vet.

Etc.

He had only licked food when they discharged him. She said to feed him anything he would eat. So when we got home, I put some Whiskas in a dish and put it on the carpet by the kitchen. I turned around to get some Friskies and planned to scramble him an egg but, he had jumped up to the usual spot on the counter and was eating anything and everything he could get past that dumb cone. He practically hoovered the entire counter - kibbles and wet food.

He does not seem to be in any pain except the Pain of That Fucking Cone. Which he has to wear until October 30. She said that I could take it off for short periods as long as I had him controlled. She said she had one cat who was ok with that and another for whom the on/off thing was just too stressful so she left it on him always.

Anyway, he's home. And The Smalls has not left his side. The only thing he can reach with is tongue is his tail so he's cleaning the bejesus out of it.





I think he's trying to get that hospital stink off of him. He has not stopped moving since they brought him out. He spent the entire trip home trying to get out of the carrier and now he's just walking around, cleaning his tail, eating some more, walking around cleaning his tail, eating some more.

OH and when I went to settle the bill, I got $700 back! How wild is that?

And I have two drugs for him - a pill and a liquid in a syringe that I shoot into his mouth. They are supposed to calm him down. He's going to need it - he's now chasing The Smalls at high speed. I'm sure that's not good.

I had a cat who used her cone of shame to scratch her belly.... so I added a shirt of shame also. She didn’t like me much but it worked.

I'm not going to lie, I was waiting for this post. I had a feeling it would be soon based on the time you said you were planning on driving up to pick him up. It's good to read that he's eating so well.

yeah i killed as much time as i could and then just went on it. i had my laptop. i was ready to hang for an hour but they brought him right out.

also traffic there was not an issue and even traffic home wasn't bad. i do hate driving through that tunnel, tho.

Ah! Pictures of Biggie!!! 🐱‍👤 So good to see him and this post. But - - oh - that cone of shame! Poor baby. Good to see him eating, and wanting to groom, even though it's only his tail. Chasing The Smalls? - yeah - keeping him quiet for 10 days will not be easy..... 🙀 But - it is a good sign.

Oh -- and $700 returned? How often does THAT happen?!

awww Biggie I am so glad you are back <3 . At the tinykittens.com's they have used soft cones of some kind, I'll try to look it up. The cats seem to tolerate those better.

So happy to read this, and loved the note from the vet who obviously knows what is realistic. My last visit to the emergency vet was expensive just to check a dogs ears. Over $800, but Holy Cow! They should have refunded the $700 to you and kissed you, too.

I am so glad that he is home and recovering. I'm guessing The Smalls may well help him get clean - when we had two cats they would both groom the other if they came home from the vets even though they never did it any other time.

And such a relief to have a vet who knows how well cats and instructions mix :)

I'm so glad he's healthy and home! I was so worried for him yesterday that I almost worked myself into a cry at work. But then I saw your IG post that he was better and you were swimming, so I calmed down.

I'm surprised The Smalls wasn't rude to him when he came home smelling funny. I usually take my two to the vet together but the times I've had to take them separately I've had to listen to 2 days of hissing and fighting when they came back. I'm glad The Smalls has his Biggie back.

I keep wondering,  and maybe I missed it somewhere in a post, but did they tell you what he ate to cause the blockage?  I had a friend whose dog ate the entire Thanksgiving turkey wrapper from their trash and he had to have a big expensive surgery also.
